Playing down in Strathroy last Thurs- day night, the Combines could do little right as they found themselves an the short end of an 8-3 score. The loss was only their second of the season. Playing hack on their home ice Friday night, they had little trouble with the Glencoe Pon- tius, as they trounced them 10-1. Prior to their loss on Thursday night, the Glencoe team had been the only squad to defeat the Combines so far this season. Next home game for the Com- bines will be this Friday night, when they play host to the Strathroy Rockets. Strathroy 8 -Combine 3 After Steve Kyle had shot the Combines into an early first period lead the Rockets started to fire as they pumped in four quick goals, two each by Alex Campbell and Mac Westgate. Both teams score twice in the second, with Cooper and Cush- man blinking the light for the Combines, and Thomas. and Westgate for the Rockets. In the third period Campbell scored his third goal for Strath- roy and Westgate his fourth. In the penalty end of the game, the Combines came out on top, drawing only two minors to seven minors and a miscon- Special Draws Winners of the special draw which was postponed in Decem- ber by the Father Stephen Eckert Council, due to poor weather, were named at the January meeting. Combines 10 -Glencoe 1 The Combines had little trou- ble with the Glencoe six on Fri- day night, as they banged in three goals in both the first and second periods, and then added four mare in the third. Glen- coe scored their lone tally in the third. Bruce Cooper with two goals was the only Combine to score more than once, while Earl Wagner, Craig Chapman, Bill Shaddick, Dennis Morrisey, Bob Hoffman. Bruce Horton, Steve Kyle and Russ Klopp all scored singletons. A total of seven minor pen- alties were handed out in the game, with four going to the Combines and three to the Pontius. 0 Zurich Teams Lose Two To Clinton Clinton Bantams and Midgets came to Zurich on Monday night and trounced both the local teams by decisive scores. In the first half of the double- header the Clinton Bantams walloped the Zurich crew 8-0, while in the Midget game the homesters took an 8-2 trimming. Three Clinton players, Bart- liff, Colquhoun, McAuley and Scott scored two goals each in the one-sided game. The Midgets came out little better in their game as the pow- erful Clinton team banged in five third -period goals to salt away the victory. • In the first period the two teams each scored one, with Ken Westlake banging in the Zurich goal. Clinton scored two unanswered goals in the second, and went on to outscore the locals 5-1 in the third. Bill Hoffman scared the other Zur- ich goal in the third period. The Midget game was a bit on the chippy side, as a total of 10 penalties were ,handed out to the two teams. t times like this,. Sixth year bar: Paul Flaxbard, Gary Flaxbard, Shirley Flax - bard, Louis Willert, Louis Willert has completed 18 years of faithful attendance in Sunday School; as pupil, as teacher, and two years as treasurer. New Group Of Lutheran Women The new organization of Lu- theran Church Women held their meeting on Tuesday eve- ning, with an attendance of 40 members and visitors. Rev. Fischer showed a film strip of Pastor Paul, of Raj'ahumndry, in India, this country chosen as the theme of the year: • Rev. Fischer urged that the group study and get all infor- mation possible about this in- teresting country, which is pro- gressing in its industry, educa- tion and the church. Mrs. Carl Willert was in charge of the devotions. The president, Mrs. Brokenshire, re- ceived the offering which was a generous gift for the new treasury, of which Mrs. Doerr is in charge. Many items of business fol- lowed. The secretary, Mrs. Lawrence, read the members' names on groups end commit- tees. Mrs. N. Fleischauer and Mrs. Gordon Hess are in charge of the nursery department. Mrs. Jack Turkheim was nominated to be pianist. Offers of help were accepted to clean and paint, also making of drapes for the new church addition of the Sunday School, with work to be done this week. Plans for future are to par- ticipate with the community for World Day of Prayer. It was also 'agreed to be :hosts for a weekend to the leadership train- ing class from Waterloo. 0 S. Zurich Teams Win Two Games From Hensall Gang The Zurich Bantams and Mid- gets took a doubleheader from the Hensall teams last Wednes- day night, winning by 3-1 and 8-2 scores, respectively. The twin bill was played in the Hensall Arena. In the Bantam game Paul Hesse scored twice for Zurich, with Bob Webb banging in the third goal, Michael Hay scored the lone Hensall tally. The Zurich .six went ahead 1-0 in the first, and cane through with a 2-1 score by the enol of the second. They added their third goal midway through the third. Midgets Win Easy The Midget game was not quite so close, as the stronger Zurich crew coasted to an easy 8-2 win. They scored three goals in the first, added two more in the second, and then blinked the red light three more times in the third. Ken Westlake paced the Zur- ich attach with three goals, for the hat trick. Paul Hesse banged in two, while Bob Becker, Bill Hoffman and Paul Corriveau each scored •once.
