Ducharme, of this highway, after spending a few weeks in Windsor and De- troit, returned to their home on New Year's Day. They were accompanied back by Miss Jane Masse and friend Robert Mont- gomery, both of Windsor. The return trip was much enjoyed by the Ducharnes. During their absence two highly respected citizens of this parish had passed away—Mrs. Frank Denomme and Miss Re- gina Corriveau, The Ducharmes were sorry they were not back to pay their last tribute to both deceased, and can only offer their deepest sympathy to the bereaved families, The present New Year's Day of 1964 was not a pleasant one to glove about from place to place as is customary on New Year's Day, but regardless of the heavy fall of snow that had covered the ground and the high winds that had almost blocked all laneways, this did not prevent too many from making the effort to be with their parents on that day and to meet with other relatives and friends. There is a true saying that we are always looking ahead for such occasions and not realizing that each one adds a year to your life and making it one year less for you to trod along on this earth. In this parish the gaiety of the day was like usual, every- one appeared to be happy and forgetting past grievances. The occasion was fitting for that the day was not too bright and the roads were not promising. No accidents were reported in the near -by. Families and friends gathered together to partake of delicious meals. Gifts were presented and many good wishes to one another. Traditionally the New Year handshake and good wishes does not cease till Epiphany Day, which is on the sixth day of January. We be- lieve it to be a French tradi- tion which was inherited from the early pioneers of this par- ish, and the generations of to- day go full heart and soul for it, presumably in memory of their deceased parents who for some had passed away almost a century ago. Another year has passed away leaving in its pathway for some contentment of heart. They en- joyed the fruit of their labour which they abundantly received. During the year there was no- thing in their way to offset their enjoyment nor was there anything to acuse losses in their home in health or financially. For those people 1963 will go on record perhaps as the best in past years. They were blessed with happiness during its length. In reality it was a year especial- ly trained for them with no losses of prosperity or members of their family. For others the year was dif- ferent—it had the opposite for then. Stumbling blocks were in their way which caused finan- cial losses from which they could not recover, or failing health causing suffering to them and besides causing ex- penses beyond their ability to pay. They feared each dawn of day fearing danger that awaited them by accidents or by misteps, which lead them wrong.. For those unfortunate ones 1963 will soon be forgotten, even though they :had a few sunny days. Let us hope that 1964 will reward them abun- dantly to make up for the de- pressing days of the past year, BLUEWATER and BAYFIELD NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Russell Graing- er, Helen, Phyllis, Jim, Cathryn and Steven; Mr. and Mrs. Rich- ard Erb and Karen, and Mr, E.
