Zurich Bowler
Comes Close To
Perfect (urine
Jim Bedard, popular Zurich
bowler, set a new record for
kegglers from this area, on
Tuesday, when he rolled a near -
perfect game. His score was
418. A perfect score would
be 450.
Jim was in London and de-
cided to bowl a few games at
the Arcade Recreation Centre.
His big game showed a strike
in every frame but the first of
the tenth, when he only man-
aged to come up with a spare.
By missing the strike in the
tenth he robbed himself of the
32 extra points he would have
needed for a perfect game,
Jim says he will keep on try-
ing until he reaches his goal,
that of a perfect game.

ST. JOSEPH and DRYSDALE
.LAI,., FRED DUCHARME. Corre L,ondentl.
Mr, and Mrs. Joseph Statton,
of Detroit, spent the weekend
at the home of the later's par-
ents, Mr, and Mrs. Garfield
Denomme.
Mr, Raymond Ducharme, of
the Bluewater south, was a vis-
itor on Sunday last with Mr.
and Mrs. Don Rasse, of Merton.
Indian Summer?
The snow-covered fields of
the latter part of last week
have now disappeared, at least
for the present. If we follow
the legend of the yellow tribe
we are in for a spell of summer-
like weather, call it Indian
summer if you wish. But it's
too early to think about that
yet.
At time of writing word was
received of the successful oper-
ation on Mrs. Leonard Jeffrey,
of Goderich, in the hospital in
that town. Mrs. Jeffrey is the
daughter of Mrs, Josephine Du-
charme of this highway.
At last the rain of Friday and
Saturday, nixed with wet snow,
was much welcomed, especially
for those who were short of
water, It will at least, for the
time being, help them with the
water shortage. It will also
help farmers with their plowing
and to say it could freshen up
fall wheat roots and with a few
sunny days it will help them
along. Looking back on the
whole situation, the drought.

it will help to expedite a smooth
changeover to the new system
of issuing drivers' licences.

For commercial vehicles and
trailers, Mr. Haskett said, the
method inaugurated in 1963
would be continued without
change. The sale of 1964 plates
for commercial vehicles and
trailers will commence on Mon-
day, March 2, 1964, and these
plates will again be available
on a quarterly basis as well as
for the whole year. The 1963
plates for commercial vehicles
and trailers will expire at mid-
night on Tuesday, March 31,

pastures, which to some extent
meant a loss to farmers. As
the time will pass along their
little worries •of the past few
weeks will be forgotten . They
will be renewed by high winds,
low temperatures and snow bliz-
zards which will perhaps be
worse than what we were greet-
ed with the past few weeks.
Quiet Hallowe'en
On Thursday evening last,
Hallowe'en eve, there were
many spooks and gobblins roam-
ing on this highway, calling on
almost all of the homes. Their
object of giving you a call was
to collect bonbon, and what
you had to give them. They
came in groups of three, five
and as many as seven, so there-
fore not much could be done
but to respond generously to
their request. They were re-
spectable in their demands,
they were not of the hold-up
type as you often read about.
We believe they were welcomed
in all their calls. All gave them
treats to satisfy them and to
fill their hand containers.
Those young visible ghosts
when entering a home, even
though you could not recognize
them, you could tell they were
harmless, not of the type that
sometimes roam around to play
pranks, to destroy property and
remove even heavy implements
and placing then where it took
much help to remove them and
put them back in their former
place. The whole of the past
Hallowe'en eve was not like
pranks played years ago when
farmers, especially the next
morning, would find their farm
gates or other belongings lodged
in trees or on top of barns when
it was necessary to call neigh-
bours to help remove them.
The past Hallowe'en, tots
were well garbed for the occa-
sion and of course masked be-
yond recognition. The younger
ones were accompanied by their
parents and perhaps they had
been given tips as to how to
act. So in all, in this surround -

Ing, there was not any disturb-
ance caused by those young
spirits and as we see things it
was only an outing for them
and something for them to talk
about among themselves, of
what happened on this past Hal-
lowe'en eve.
