OCTOBER 1923
Harry Rose and Elmer Claus-
ius have left Zurich for Kit-
chenere, where they both have
found positions.
Mr, William Waiper, the bak-
er in Zurich, has exchanged his
farm in Tuckersmith Township
for a farm near Seaforth owned
by Mr, Thomas Webster.
A special meeting of the
board of health in Hay Town-
ship was held last week to con-
sider what steps should be
taken regarding the recent out-
break of scarlet fever in the
district.
Mr. Charles Fritz just shipped
a carload of potatoes to Toron-
to, from the station located at
Hensall.
Over 40 cars of sugar beets
have been shipped from the
Hensall railway station during
the past few weeks.
At a meeting of the school
trustees of Hensall last week it
was decided to move the con-
tinuation room class from above
Joynt's store to the west room
of the public school.
Mr. Joe Bedour, of the Blue -
water highway, shipped a car-
load of potatoes to Mr. Peter
Mousseau, at McGregor.

OCTOBER 1938
Ed Fink has rented the house
on South Richmond Street in
Hensall, belonging to Mr, G.
Ferguson, and occupied by Mrs.
P. Fisher. He gets possession
on November 1.

15 YEARS AGO
OCTOBER 1948
Bill O'Brien, of Zurich, was
elected president of the student
council at Exeter High School,
and Betty Mickle, of Hensall,
was elected treasurer.
On Monday morning while
Bob Fisher was playing ball at
the school ground in Zurich,
he slipped on the wet grass .and
broke his arm. He was attended
to by Dr. P. J. O'Dwyer.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hay
have moved their effects into
the new home they recently
built in Zurich.
Mr. Hector Forcier. of St.
Joseph, has the foundation fin-
ished for his new garage at the
corner of highways 21 and 84.
It will also be used for other
types of business as well.
A new bus service is being
introduced to run from Strat-
ford to Grand Bend, all year
around. In the summer the trip
will be made oftener than in
the winter.
An enjoyable time was spent
in the Varna Town Hall last
Friday night, in honour of a
newly wed couple, Mr. and Mrs.
Mervyn Hayter.
Grand Bend Court of Revision Sits
On Appeals; Several Changes blade
GRAND BEND -Grand Bend
village council sat as court of
revision on the assessment roll
for 1964, on Monday night, Oc-
tober 28. They heard six ap-
peals, sustained two of them,
reduced the assessments on two,
and will complete decision on
the other two next Monday
night.
Five appeals by Ecl Odbert,
an his residence, roller rink
and lunch booth properties were
heard. Since Mr. Odbert wished
details of how the assessment
was arrived at, these appeals
were held over until Monday,
November 4, when the court

OCTOBER 1953
At a dispersal sale of accred-
ited Hereford, owned by John
McGregor, of Hensall, a top
price of $1,625 was paid for top
bull by a Kippen man.
During the clry warm spell of
the past few weeks many people
along the lake took a dip in the
water, and report it quite com-
fortable,
Seventeen neighbours with
their tractors converged on the
farm of Fred Beer, and in a
little more than four hours had
plowed 50 acres of land. The
project was organized by Ed
Fink and Alex Mousseau.
A pleasant surprise party was
held for Mr. and Mrs. William
Decker, a mile east of Zurich,
prior to their moving into the
village.
The road improvement pro-
gram on Goshen Street south in
the village of Zurich is progress-
ing quite nicely, and will be .a
big help when completed.
A fashion show was held last
Wednesday night in the Dash-
wood Public School, sponsored
by Mrs. Taylor's class.
