BELL & LAUGHTON Solicitors for the Executors Exeter, Ont. 43,4,5,b Notice To Creditors Talk Over Advance Poll at Grand Bend is Headed for Fined S6odowivn GRAND BIND -Property holders in Grand Bend, who live in cities during the winter time, have petitioned the council of the resort village to arrange for an advance poll, on a Saturday prior to the municipal election, so that it would be easier for them to cast their ballot. A petition signed by 23 prop- erty owners, two of whom live in the Township of Bosanquet, adjoining the village, said they would take the matter up with the Ontario Municipal Board if the Council did not provide to advance poll. "We hope this will not be necessary," went the preamble to the petition, "as it will further irritate the out- of-town voters, who now feo1 Council is being unfair in not allowing them the privilege of exercising their legal rights." The motion for an advance poll was put by Councillor Ian G. Coles, who lives in Southcott Pines Parkland Ltd., and also has a London residence. Sup- porting the move was councillor Rollie Grenier. In opposition were councillors Emerson Des- jardine and Orval J. Wassmann. Reeve Stewart Webb voted in opposition as well. A similar motion had been defeated two weeks ago, when the same opinions were regis- tered by the same councillors. Coles contends that there are 300 property owners disenfran- chised by the fact that the vote falls on Monday, and they are tunable to make the trip from the city in time to rote before the polls close at 6 p.m. He apnealed to the businessmen by saying that a Saturday advance poll would encourage property owners to come from the city In the estate of Louis Albert Prang, deceased All persons having claims against the estate of Louis Al- bert Prang, late of the Village of Zurich, in the County of Huron, Gentleman, who died on or about the 29th day of Sep- tember, 1963, are required to file particulars ,of same with Bell & Laughton, solicitors of Exeter, •Ontario, by the 2nd day of November, 1963, after which date the estate will be distributed having regard only to those claims of which notice has been received. ALVIN WALPER, Auctioneer. 43,b to visit their cottages, and spend the weekend here. He said, "These ratepayers are an in- tegral part of our economy." for relocation are in the village to the north of Main Street, Reeve Stewart Webb suggest- ed leaving the polls open an hour later on election day, even though this would mean open- ing an hour later in the morn- ing, but no councillor took up the idea. After the motion was lost, Coles muttered, "very, very rarrow, very very narrow in- deed." Then he added, "I heard that one councillor did not sup- port me on this motion, because I didn't support the Chamber of Commerce on the turkey shoot up here." Clerk Murray A. DesJardins pointed out that it was now too late to arrange for an advance poll this year, since the decision must be reached and the neces- sary by-law passed prior to the first of November. The next regular meeting of village coun- cil is on November 4. An invitation to a meeting of the St. Clair Regional Devel- opment Association in Petrolia that night, October 21, was read. Councillor Coles suggested that this probably would be the best development association f o r Grand Bend to belong to. Councillor Wassmann com- mented that it was a newly formed group, and this was about the second meeting held. He stated that if it did not do more than the Mid:Western On- tario Development Association then it would not be much good. Grand Bend has belonged to Mid-WODA since 1935 when it was formed, and when the vil- lage was partly in Huron Coun- ty. Wassmann noted that at the last meeting he attended of the group (in October) he dis- covered that they had no record of "industry on the move" at all. Council will write for minutes of the SCRDA meeting, so that they can be informed. A cheque for $5,000 to com- plete this year's requisition was authorized to the Grand Bend Public School Board. Some urgency in removal of the archway sign and posts at the Colonial Hotel corner was noted. Some cottages pur- chased from the lot of Green Valley Trailer Camp, must be removed in a few days, and they are too high to go under the arch. Their potiental sites somiiimilimmamereemeseeseena OPTICAL SERVICE We have a large selection of Modern Frames for alt ages. Broken Lenses DUPLICATED PROMPTLY! Councillor Wassmann report- ed that Department of Public Works men were taking sound- ings in the harbour, to deter- mine what dredging. was needed and it was expected that these soundings would show more sand in the river mouth than had been there a year ago. Although a dredging contract was awarded in the fall of 1962, and some work was done then the job was never completed. Earl Thompson, delegate from the Grand Bend Branch 498, Royal Canadian Legion, request- ed council to declare a holiday on November 11 for Remem- berance Day. Couneil complied with this, and passed the neces- sary motion. This will be a full holiday. A committee from council will meet with representatives of Southcott Pines Parkland Ltd. in Exeter in the near fu- ture to discuss an agreement dealing with the ownership of certain lands to the south of the Aux Sable River in the vvillage, bordering on land owned by the company. The village is interested in proceeding right now with cut- ting down of the hill, to acquire fill for the roads program. Some aspects of the proposal made by the Southcott firm did not meet with council's approval. 0 ALBERT G.
