Somewhere beyond the rain- bow's end, The skies are bright and fair, No shadows dint, no darkness falls, The land is peaceful there. And someone with the power to heal, To guide and understand, Is waiting there to calm our fears, And take us by the hand. So, when a dear one heeds the call, Our hearts should he at rest, For there, beyond'the rainbow's end, A loving God knows hest. When forest fires burn the trees and bushes over large areas around a lake, there is nothing left to hold the rain- fall and so most of it runs off the land into the lake, carrying with it not only the topsoil but also the ashes from the fire. This sediment, plus the lye water unlivable for many of Ontario's game fish. The result is that fishing In that particular lake may be ruined for years. That's why forest protection officers of the Ontario Depart- ment of Lands and Forests urge every one travelling through forested areas to be most careful with fire in any form in the woods. Fish cannot live in polluted lakes or streams. Birds and animals die horribly when fire ravages the forests which are their home, 0 Peel Onions Under Cold Water Tap Almost eveyone who has in- vaded a kitchen has been re- duced to tears, at one time or another, by a recipe that starts "Slice three large onions..." Will power doesn't help, for there is a good reason why onions make you cry. Covering the eye is a very sensitive mem- brane known as the conjunc- tiva. It lines the inner surface of the eyelids and gives the sur- face of the eyeball a trans- parent covering. This is what hurts when a small pebble or fleck of duet irritates the eye. In the case of the onion, ac- cording to researchers from the Murine Company, this veget- able contains an oily chemical which evaporates into the air and is highly irritating to the conjunctival membrane. To help the situation, the tear glands begin producing in an effort to wash the vapor away. Eye drops may also be used to relieve the irritation. However, people who like fresh onions need not despair. Holding them under cold water while you peel will be a helpful aid when you are preparing your favorite recipe. 1963 FALL FAIRS Bayfied ___ Sept 25, 26 Blyth _..._ .. _ _.___ Sept 17, 18 _ Sept. 26, 27 __ Sept. 26-28 Oct. 4 Aug. 30, 31, Sept. 2 ___ Sept. 18, 19 Forest ... _.. ___ Sept. 20, 21 Gorrie __ _._ _ _ Oct. 4, 5 Hanover __...._____ Aug. 30, 31 Harriston _____ Sept. 18, 19 Ilderton ___ __•.,___ Sept. 27, 28 Kincardine .. --- Sept. 19; 20 Fergus ... _.. . --- Sept. 20, 21 Kirkton _--- Sept. 26, 27 Listowel _ --__ Sept. 23,24 London _._..-_. _._..___ Sept. 6-14 Lucknow - -.- .-.--- Sept. 25, 26 Mildmay . __. -- Sept. 10, 11 Milverton ._ .. _._ Sept. 20, 21 Mitchell _.... . ___ Sept. 24, 25 Mount Brydges _.
