Zurich Kings a big 7.6 win over
Durham on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier in the game the Zurich
crew were leading 6-2, but
gradually saw their lead dis-
appear.
Their big break came in the
ninth after the first two batters
struck out. Don O'Brien lined
out a single to centre field, and
then stole second. The next bat-
ter, Larry Bedard, smashed a
single to left field to score
O'Brien from second and end
the game.
Durham opened the scoring
in the first inning, when they
sent two runners across the
plate. Then the Zurich crew
came back strong with four
runs in their half of the same
inning, banging out two doub-
les and a single.
In the fourth Zurich managed
to send two more runs across
the plate on three singles, a
walk and a sacrifice,
Durham came back strong in
the seventh when they scored
one run on a double and two
walks. In the eighth they tied
the score when they counted
three more runs on three walks,
a single and a Zurich error.
Larry Bedard and Bill Shad -
dick paced the Zurich assault
with three hits each, one of
Beard's being a double. Doug
O'Brien lined out a double and
single, while Earl Wagner, Dick
Bedard and Don O'Brien each
singled.
Dick Bedard started on the
mound for Zurich and worked
well until he was relieved in
the seventh by Bill Shaddick.
Manager Don O'Brien came on
in the eighth to put out the
Durham rally, and finished the
ninth as well.
