JOSEPH, ON HIGHWAY 84 Ralph Parkinson -- Proprietor • Celebrate Anniversary On Monday, August 5, Mr. and Mrs. Dolph Sopha of this Blue Water highway motored to Clinton, to the Elm Haven Motel, where they quietly cele- brated together their 47th an- niversary of their married life. The Sophas have eight children, four sons and four daughters, and also have several grand- children, and several great grandchildren to greet them as the years pass on, The Sophas have been life long residents of this Parish and are in their middle sixties, and are looking forward, if they are spared, to celebrate their golden anniver- sary, which is only three years hence, and that will be with all of their children and grand- children, which will be many. After Mr. Sophas' married life started he chose to follow the career of a fish dealer, which he had started in his early youth years. Mr. Sopha made many friends in the near and far from his home and his full fifty years on the road be came a prosperous business, being always ready to serve the public in a faithful and honest way. While awaiting the mid- way of a half century of their marriage, it is our sincere wish that they both be blessed while awaiting that happy day. Changes By 1970 As we mentioned in our last issue it would be some time be - for the farmers are fully re- warded. For the present genera- tion there is some encourage- ment but the older generation were never blessed with pros- perity. They were not spared to live long enough to receive any reward for their labor. Since colonizing this western part of this province they were de- prived of many improvements that took place for the advance- ment and welfare of farming and what is taking place today, and what will take place for the generation of today and for the future ones. If all predic- tions come true, farming will be the key life of this century for the generations of tomor- row to enjoy. In the federal election on Monday, Elston Cardiff, Pro- gressive Conservative candidate, won easily over A. Y. McLean, the Liberal Standard bearer, by about 1,000 votes. The paths of history through Perth and Huron counties are colour- ful and exciting: Courageous men like G -alt and Dunlop cleared the land and developed towns; settlers brought richness and beauty in architectural design. To honour these founders BRITISH MORTGAGE presents "Paths of History in Perth and Huron"—an attractive booklet of scenic drives and pioneer reminders. It was drawn and recorded by John Martin, A.R.C.A., O.S.A., and arranged and written by Anthony Kearsley, B.A., F.R., Met. S. Through the way of the past is gradually disappearing, some original structures still stand — an occasional log cabin, farm- house, store or a doorway. These are drawn and described in the BRITISH MORTGAGE book, and can easily be found by following the outlined routes. This booklet was published for you, and is free at any BRITISH MORTGAGE office, Visit any one of the eleven offices and ask for a copy for your bookshelf.
