Grade 13 Results at South Huron
Top honors in this year's
graduating class were spread
among students from five
centres in the South Huron
District.
Janis Gulens, Dashwood, led
the class with an average of
80%, followed by Gail Farqu-
har, Exeter, with 76.
Frances Johns, RR 1 Wood-
ham, placed third, a fraction
of a percentage point above
Sharon McBride, Kippen, and
Robert Micklie, Hensall, who
tied for fourth. Frances posted
a mean of 75% and the other
two averaged over 74%.
The class passing average
was 87-1%, one of the better
records in recent years.
Highest subject percentage
was physics in which all of the
14 students passed who tried
the exam. A 92 percentage was
posted in botany, Spanish auth-
ors and composition. English
literature came third with 90%.

John Murdock
The death of John Robert
•Murdoch, well known resident
of Stanley Township, occurred
in St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don, on Friday, August 2, Mr.
Murdoch was the youngest son
of the late William Murdoch
and Jessie Ross Murdoch, pio-

neer residents of the Brucefield
area, and was the last surviv-
ing member of his family. He
was born and lived all his life
on the farm owned and occu-
pied by his family for over one -
hundred years. He was in his
74th year.
Until his retirement some
ten years ago, Mr. Murdoch was
a successful farmer, and apiar-
ist, operating over five hun-
dred colonies of bees. He ship-
ped honey by the carload, to
the West and East Coasts, as
well as shipments overseas, and
to the U.S.A. Brought up with
the beef cattle business, in
which his father was a pioneer,
he was actively engaged in this
field, and retained his interests
therein until the fall of 1962.
Mr. Murdoch has suffered in-
different health for some years,
being a victim of an asthmatic
and heart condition, but became
seriously ill only two months
ago.
He is survived by his wife,
the former Janet Isabel Mc -
Beath; one son, William N. of
Dundas, and two daughters,
Mrs. Stanley G. Rumble (Aud-
rey), of Toronto, and Mrs. Wil-
liam D. Duncan (June), of
Miami, Florida; and eight
grandchildren. He was prede-
ceased by his eldest daughter,
Beth, in January of this year.
A former member of Carmel
Presbyterian Church, Hensall,
he was a member of Huron
Lodge A.F. and A.M. 224, Hen-
sall, under whose auspices the
Masonic Service was held on
Sunday evening, August 4.
Funeral service from the
Bonthron Funeral Chapel, Hen-
sall, was conducted by Rev.
Howard Plant, of Brucefield,
