New Licences Go
On Sale Jan. 2
Transport Minister Rown-
tree announced Wednesday that
the new 1962 Drivers' Licences
and Motor Vehicle Permits
would go on sale at all issuing
Offices on Tuesday, January 2,
1962.
He said that people would
notice a change this year. "In
the interests of the Depart-
ment's continuing accident pre-
vention program," the minister
continued, "we have had im-
printed in red across the face
of all licences and permits the
words -`Safety Pays.' Now
every time anyone looks at one
of these documents he will be
reminded of the dangers ac-
companying lack of caution
when driving."
Mr. Rowntree added a word
of warning that again in 1962
there would be no extension of
r the deadline for the purchase
it of new licence plates. This
aI coming year, he said, the dead-
n- line would be Wednesday,
March 14, and that after that
date all motor vehicles must
carry 1962 plates.
T h e Minister requested
everyone to obtain their licen-
ces and permit early and so
avoid a last minute rush in
March, which could lead to
long line-ups and inconvenience
to purchasers. He said that is-
suing was done from some 260
Agency offices throughout the
Province, and that these offices
