Farewell Party
Eleanor Wolfe and Mary Lou
Schenck were in charge of a
farewell party for Beverly and
Frances Becker, who with their
parents will soon be moving
from the community.
Thirty-one were present and
enjoyed games and contests.
Eleanor read an address and
Beverly and Frances were pre-
sented a weekend bag.
Urban Pfile, of the 14th con-
cession of Hay, is a patient in
Shouldice Surgery at Thornhill,
where he underwent surgery.
' Mr. and Mrs. Eben Weigand
and family, motored to Ridge -
town .on Sunday, and Donald
enrolled in the Junior course.
Plan Fowl Supper
The men of the Evangelical
UB Church will be preparing
and serving a Fowl Supper in
the church basement, next Wed-
nesday evening. The supper will
be served from 5:00 p,m. on.
News of Dashwood Disiriet
Fireman Feted
Wallace Becker, volunteer
fireman of Dashwood, and his
wife were guests of honour at
a farewell party held on Mon-
day, October 23, at the firehall.
Euchre was played. Winners
were: Mrs. Ken McCrae and
Harold Schroeder; consolation
winner, Mrs. Gerald Martene.
Mervyn Webb gave the address
and fire chief James Hayter,
presented them with a wall
'lock. Helen and Wally very
graciously thanked all and in-
vited them to visit them in the
Owen Sound district.
Dashwood Merry Maids
The fourth meeting of the
4-H girls' club featuring fruits
was held at the home of Mrs.
Leonard Schenk with nine girls
and the leaders present.
Roll call for the next meeting.
"Fruits we freeze, can, or dry,
state if any of these are grown
cn your farm."
Home assignment, "Prepare
and serve fruit for breakfast at
?east once. Plan two breakfast
menus, one with fruit at the be-
ginning of the meal and one in-
cluding fruit later in the meal.
Notes were given on fruit for
breakfast, a good breakfast,
fruit with cereal, fruit for vit-
amin C.
Fifth Meeting
The 4-H girls held their meet-
ing at the home of Norma Wei-
gand with 10 girls and the two
leaders, Mrs. Sid Baker and Mrs.
Leonard Schenk present.
Notes were again given on
fruit for dinner and supper,
fruit appetizers, fruit cup, fruit
in main course, fruit accompan
ent, fruit for dessert and fruit
in carried lunches.
The girls made two apple
pies and sampled them. Roll
call will be, fruit I ate yester-
day, Home assignment, make
fruit pie or tarts and record re-
sults. File recipe.
Mrs, Charles Kading
Mrs.. Charles Kading, 87, resi-
dent of Exeter for 45 years, pas-
sed away at the Exeter Nursing
home, on Monday, October 16.
Her husband predeceased her
last May.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs.
Eva Price, Cal.; two daughters,
Mrs. Sid (Violet) Thompson, Ex-
eter, and Mrs. Bertha Hutchin-
son Teeterville; two sons, Fred,
Port Huron, Eldon, of London,
The body rested at the Hoff-
man funeral home, until Wed-
nesday, October 18, when Rev.
A. E. Holley, of Grand Bend,
conducted the funeral service
and interment was made in
Grand Bend Cemetery.
Bearers were: Asa Penhale,
Hilton Ford, Henry Green, Er-
vin Ford, Sid Sanders and Ed
Penhale,
Chester Bechill
Chester Bechill, 63, passed
away Sunday, October 15, at his
summer home in Grand Bend,
from a heart attack while rak-
ing leaves. He was 'a resident
of Dearborn, Mich.
Born near St. Thomas, he is
survived by his wife, the form-
er Anne McCallum; two sons,
Vernon of Wooster, Ohio, and
Ronald, at home; one sister,
Mrs. W. N. Reyeraft, of Glen-
coe; two brothers, Norman, of
Hamilton, and Harold, of Glen-
coe.
He was taken by Hoffman

Exeter Couple Fails Down.
Stairs
When Ralph Willis, of Exeter,
who had just returned from
Westminster Hospital, London,
the perivous week, went to the
aid of his wife who had fallen
Own the stairs, he suffered a
dizzy spell and fell on top of
her causing compound fracture
of the right leg. Attended by
Dr. Read, she was removed by
Hoffman ambulance to St. Jos-
eph's Hospital, London,
Charles Klopp, 13 year old
son of Mr. and Mrs, Harold
Klopp, of Grand Bend, was tak-
en by Hoffman ambulance to
St. Joseph Hospital, London, on
Monday, October 23, when he
became very ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Reste-
mayer spent a few days in Lon-
don with Mr. and Mrs. Victor
Kraft and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Rader and
family, spent Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Wendell Gamble and
family, in London.
Mr. and Mrs, Elmer Rader
and family, and L. H. Rader,
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Ivan Taylor and family, at Wa-
terloo.
Fowl Supper
The annual fowl supper for
the Ladies Aid of Zion Lutheran
Church was held on Friday,
October 20, with the husbands
or a friend as guests. Group 4
and Mrs. Cliff Salmon as con-
vener, was in charge.
Following supper, bunco was
played. Winners were: Ervin
Devine and Mrs. Albert Miller;
consolation winners were: Mrs.
Albert Rader and Oscar Miller.

Rev. C. W. Smith, of Bayfield,
and Rev. T. J. Pitt, are exchang-
ing pulpits next Sunday, Octo-
ber 29. The service in Varna
will commence an standard

A number of friends and re-
latives attended the funeral of
the late James McNain, of Luck -
now, on Monday of this week.

Thrifty Kippenettes
The seventh meeting of the
Thrifty Kippenettes met at the
home of Mrs, Alex McGregor,
on October 21. The meeting
opened with 14 members repeat-
ing the 4-H Pledge. The roll
call was taken up and Sharon
McBride read the minutes of the
last meeting, and Helma Van
Loon was elected secretary for
the next meeting, which is to be
held at the home of Mrs. Alex
McGregor, on October 30, at 9
o'clock.
Mrs. Alex 112cGregor made de-
licious looking salads with fruit,
while Mrs. Caldwell discussed
garnishings, fruit accompani-
ments, fruit specialties, table ar-
rangements and a cheese tray.
A delicious lunch was served
containing the many fruit
breads that most of the club
girls who were assigned to bring
them and different kinds of
cheese which the other girls
brought.
The meeting closed by the
leaders and the‘club girls sing-
ing "The Queen,"
Mr. and Mrs. M. Flood, of
Hamilton, and Miss Potsy Thom-
pson, of Guelph, visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Robert McLean,
o.ver the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Devlaem-
inck and Eric visited friends in
Tilsonburg on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Elston Dowson,
accompanied by the latter's nep.

Emerson Anderson, visited Mrs.
William Winder, on Sunday, at
Victoria Hospital, London,
Mr.. and ' Mrs. Gordon Hark-
ness, of Parkhill, visited Sunday

were guests of honor at a fam-
ily dinner at the Dominion Ho-
tel, Zurich recently, in honor
of their 35th wedding anniver-
sary.
