Huron School; Teams Split Games

School football teams, under coaches held high praise for
the direction of coaches Glen; their youngsters who received

South Huron held the 13-0
lead until the fourth quarter
when Steve Kyle went over
from the one yard line on a
quarterback sneak. Mery Tay-
lor set the play up by carrying
the ball on the option right
down to the Stratford one.
Backfield Solid
South Huron Panthers' back-
field along with the line gave a
solid 60 minute effort. With
quarter Steve Kyle calling the
signals, the backfield of Bruce
Horton, Mery Taylor, Dale 'Pur-
vey and Frank Boyle stood out
offensively as they lugged the
pigskin mostly on ground at-
tacks.
South Huron's defensive wall
held Stratford off the score -
sheet on three tries from ten
yards out. Two running plays
and a pass attempt failed for
the visitors in their strongest
attempt to hit the scoresheet.

Mitchell Wins
A stubborn ground attack
backed by an agressive aerial
display, gave Mitchell Blue Dev-
ils a 29-20 victory over South
Huron High School in the open-
ing game of the Perthex Con-
ference Senior Football League
in Mitchell last week.
The Blue Devils were held by
a stout South Huron line in the
first quarter to a 13-13 tie but
Mitchell surged ahead 19-13
mid -way through the second
quarter. No scoring prevailed
in the third, but the winners
came back strong in the fourth
quarter to outscore South Huron
10-7 and wrap up their first vic-
tory of the young season.
Bob Parkinson was the big
gun for the winners with two
touchdowns. He caught a 10
quarted and then carried over
yard TD pass late in the first
from the four standing up in the

Taylor Scores
Mery Taylor registered South
Huron's first touchdown of the
game in the early minutes of
the first quarter when he went
85 yards through centre on a
handoff from Steve Kyle to pay
dirt.
A fumbled ball on the Mitch-
ell 25 set up South Huron's sec-
ond TD. After Mery Taylor
carried for five, Steve Kyle
tossed a 35 yard pass to Dale
Turvey who made a sensational
grab in the endzone for the
major. Kyle converted for the
extra point and South Huron
went ahead 13-6.
However, before the first
quarter ended, Parkinson got
his first of two and Keith Ah-
rens converted to tie it up at
13-13.
Mitchell took a 19-13 edge in
the second quarter on Parkin-
son's second major. The score
held until the fourth when Mit-
chell added to it on Ahrens
field goal, to make it 22.13,.
During the dying minutes of
the final quarter. Mitchell's
aerial attack payed off when
Warren hit Ahrens deep in the
end zone with a 20 yard pass.
Ahrens also converted.
With the score 29.13, Dale
Turvey, who was outstanding
all afternoon, took a handoff
from quarterback Bruce Horton
and scampered 49 yards around
left end for his second TV of
the game. Frank Boyle booted
the convert just as the whistle
went to end the game. The
