Mr. and Mrs. Clare McBride,
Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Desjardine,
and Stewart Deitz, have return-
ed home from a holiday trip to
Montreal and Quebec. While
in Quebes City they visited with
Benoit' Gignac, a former resi-
dent of Zurich for many years,
Mrs. Lottie Garlock, of Detro-
it. has been visiting at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. John Albrecht
for some time.
Mrs. William Horman, o1 Har-
mony, and Mr. Charles Norman,
of Kitchener, visited last week
with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eich-
meler.
Mr. and Mrs, Hilton Truem-
ner and Mr. and Mrs. Elwood
Truemner and family spent
Thanksgiving weekend in Pig-
eon and Elkston, Michigan, vis-
iting relatives.

Mrs, George Truss, of London,
has returned to her home after
spending a week with her sister,
Mrs. George Thiel, also attend-
ing the centennial of the Luth-
eran Church.
Apple Day
The Zurich Boy Scouts are
planning an Apple Day this
Saturday, October 21. By pur-
chasing an apple from a mem-
ber of the Scouts, you are great-
ly helping the cause of scout-
ing in this village.
Businessmen Meet
An important meeting of the
Zurich Businessmen's Associat-
ion has been called for this
coning Monday night, at 8:30
p.m., in the town hall. All
members of the organization are
urged to come out to this meet-
ing, since there are several im-
portant items of business to be
dealt with.
Blind Campaign
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Daer and
daughter, of Auburn, spent Sun-
day at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. George Thiel, in Zurich.
1Ir. and Mrs. Ed Hartman, of
Goderich, were Sunday visitors
with Mrs, Theresa Hartman.
Mrs. Eldon Johnson, of Bruce -
field, was a Sunday visitor at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. John
Albrecht.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Herford, of
Elkston. Michigan, and Mr. and
Mrs. William Armbruster, of
Pigeon, Michigan, spent Sunday
with the Truemner family, on
the 14th concession.
Mr. and Mrs. William Hess,
of Woodstock, were weekend
visitors at the home of his par-
ents, Mr, and Mrs. Albert Hess.
Miss Judy Willert, of Kitch-
ener, spent the weekend at the
home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Lee Willert.
Brother Edgar Hoffman, of
Keswick, is spending a few days
at the home of his parents, Mr.

According to J. E. Bannister,
the chairman of the Campaign
for the Canadian National In-
stitute for the Blind, the village
of Zurich and district are lag-
ging away behind last year. To
date, only a little over $200 has
been donated, compared to $300
last year. The quota for this
area is $300, and donations may
still be made at the local Bank
of Montreal.

tly you have celebrated your
60th Wedding Anniversary: In
view of this very important ev-
ent in your lives, T do wish to
join your many friends in ex-
tending to you my sincerest con-
gratulations and best wishes,
May I also express the hope
that you "will both be spared to
celebrate many more happy
wedding anniversaries.
Sixty years is a long time in
one's life but I suppose it will
not seem so long after all. Sin-
ce your marriage you have pro-
ved to be exceptionally fine
citizens, You have conducted
yourselves in a way that has
won for you the confidence and
respect by all who know you
well.
You have given much public
service and you have served in
your church and in other ways
in which you have set a splen-
did example for the rest of us
to follow. I do hope and pray
that you will both have good
health and happiness so that
you can fully enjoy each others
company as you continue down
lifes journey together.
You surely have much to be
grateful for, you have raised a
family that you can be proud
of, and you have willingly help-
ed in every good cause.

At the Kinsmen dinner meet-
ing Thursday night, plans were
finalized for the Old Time Car-
nival and dance to be held Fri-
day evening, at the local arena.
Plans were laid for a Hallow-
e'en party on October 31, at the
arena, for the children of Hen-
sall and district. A local band
will head a parade, with judg-
ing of costumes, and films will
be shown.
The annual Christmas tree
project was discussed, and a
peanut drive is coming up in
the near future.

OBITUARY
R. F. Howald.
Funeral service for the late
Rheinman Frederick Howald
was held on Saturday, October
14, at the Westlake funeral
home, Zurich. Interment was
made in the Lutheran Cemetery,
Goshen Line.
Mr. Howald passed away in
St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
on Thursday, October 12, in his
61st year. He had suffered an
injury while at work, and had
been taken to the hospital,
where he underwent surgery.
Born in Zurich on June 28,
1901, he was the son of Mrs.
Mary Hey, who survives, along
with a sister, Mrs. Flossie Stau-
bus, London.
The funeral service was con-
ducted by Rev. W. P. Fischer.
Pallbearers were, Harold Thiel,
Carl Thiel, Douglas Thiel, Nor-
man Fleischauer, Earl Flax -
bard and Julius Mantey.

James Grigg
James Grigg, 72, of Grand
Bend, died in St. Joseph's Hos-
pital, London, on Sunday. Fun-
eral service was conducted in
the Hoffman funeral home in
Dashwood, on Wednesday, at
2:30 p.m., followed by interment
in Grand Bend, Cemetery.
The late Mr. Grigg, a native
of Dashwood, is survived by his
widow, the former Rosa Devine;
daughters, Mrs. Isabelle Gard-
iner, Windsor; Mrs. Marvin
(Dorothy) Salisbury, London;
Mrs. Kathleen MacDonald in
British Columbia; Mrs. Mabel
Harrison, Fort Wayne, Mich.;
sons, Edward, Thedford; Harold,
Wallenstein; Russell, Strathroy;
Alvin, Hamilton; Ivan, Dash-
wood; Nelson, Forest; 11 grand-
children.

MR. and MRS. LORNE H. LOVE were married on Satur-
day, September 30, by the Rev. Grant Mills, in Ontario
Street United Church, Clinton. The bride is Verna Lorene,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Caldwell, Clinton, and the
groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Love, Zurich. The
young couple left on a wedding trip to Mexico.

Schwalm and family.

Hall in Exeter, Monday evening.

Mrs. Don Havens was a winner
of several prizes including a
door prize.
Mr. Homer Campbell has pur-
chased the home of the late

Hold Church Service
Huron County Junior Farm-
ers and Junior Institute held
their annual Church service in
Carmel Church, Sunday even-
ing last, with approxiamtely 100
present. Guest speaker was
Rev. D. J. Lane BA, DD, of Clin-
ton, and special music was pro-
vided by the Junior Farmer
choir. A fireside service fol-
lowed the worship service in
the church school rooms.
Jim Dougall, of Hensall, is
chairman of the church service
committee.

The Explorers class of Carm-
el Church met on Thursday and
appointed their new executive
for 1961-62. Chief Explorer,
Charles Schwalm; Keeper of the
Log, Alan Armstrong, Bayfield;
Keeper of the Treasurer, John
Skea.

was observed at the United
Church Service, Sunday morn-

Rummage Sale
The Rummage Sale held Sat-
urday, sponsored by the Kinette
Club, was one of the best ever
sponsored by the club. Articles
of used clothing, etc., was in
excellent condition, and won-
derful co-operation of local and
district citizens in donating the
articles made. this worthy pro-
ject so successful. Three boxes
of used clothing not sold was
donated to the Salvation Army
at London.
Cpl. L. E. Borden, Mrs. Bor-
den, Darryl, Shelly and Sharon,
leave this Saturday to take up
residence at the PMQ's at RCAF
Station, Clinton. Cpl. Borden
is stationed in Clinton.

At Arnold Circle
Miss Lorna Taylor, of London,
showed colored pictures she had
taken this summer on her world
trip, at the Thank -offering meet-
ing of the Arnold Circle of Car-
mel Presbyterian Church, along
with the pictures, was very in-
teresting to the large attend-
ance of members and guests
which included the WMS and
Evening Auxiliary of the Uni-
ited Church, St. Paul's Anglican,
Chiselhurst United Church, and
the Senior WMS of Carmel
Church.
The speaker was introduced
by Mrs. Don Mousseau and than-
ked by Mrs. R. A. Orr.
First vice-president, Mrs. Gor-
don Schwalm chaired the meet-
ing and extended the welcome,
to members and guests. The
worship period, the theme,
"Thanksgiving" was conducted
by Mrs. Roy Bell and Mrs. Ed
Fink. Mrs. Harry Hoy read sa-
cred passages and Mrs. Bell of-
fered the closing prayer.
Mrs. William Brown favour-
ed with a lovely solo accomp-
anied by her daughter, Carol,
at the organ consol.•
Luncheon was served by the
hostesses, Mrs. John Baker and
Mrs. Don Mousseau, and their
assistants.
