Mr. and Mrs, Edward Twen-
tymen and family, Waukegan,
I11., were holiday visitors with
Mrs. Twentyman's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Cleave. They
also attended the funeral ser-
vices for the late Miss Rose
S 'den on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gelinas,
Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Gelinas,
and Mrs. Alwyn Witford, Lon-
don, attended funeral services
for the late Miss Rose Snowden,
on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. William Doug-
las, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ar -
rand, Hyde Park, were Sunday
visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Glad-
win Westlake.
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Cleave, and
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Talbot,
Jr. and three boys, London were
weekend visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Clifford Talbot, Sr.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Robinson,
Goderich, visited with relatives
in Windsor over the weekend.
Baby Randy stayed with his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert
Greer.
Mrs. Betty Carnie received
word from Ireland of the death
of her brother, W. Nesbitt, on
June 27. Mrs. Carnie had plans
made to fly by jet to visit her
brother and sister in Ireland in
the very near future.

Honour Teacher
On Retirement

Elliott Fairbairn, a native of
Tuckersmith, and brother of
William Fairbairn, of Hensall,
was honored on the occasion of
his retirement from the teach-
ing profession, and in recogni-
tion of 35 years spent as a tea-
cher in Tillsonburg, at a testi-
monial dinner at Mil -Mar Manor
last Wednesday evening.
Mr. Fairbrairn retired as
public school principal, going
to Tillsonburg in 1926. Most of
those years he has been princi-
pal and in recognition of his
long service in teaching, the
new school built in 1957 was
named the Elliott Fairbairn Pu-
blic School.
At the ceremonies a scroll
was presented to him on behalf
of the town by Mayor Vance
and a large bouquet of roses to
Mrs. Fairbairn.
A large picture of Mr. Fair-
bairn was presented to the El-
liott Fairbairn Public School,
and a small replica to his wife.
Many other gifts and congratu-
latory messages were presented
to mark Mr. Fairbairn's 48
years as an educationist.
The veteran teacher attended
public school in this area, Sea -
forth High School and Stratford
Normal. He is a brother of
Mrs. Harvey Clausius, Zurich,
and Mrs. Donald Bedard, Det
roit.
KICKED BY HORSE
Lynn Statton, of Grand Bend,
kicked in the stomach by his
horse Saturday, was released
from South Huron Hospital, Ex-
eter, Monday, with no apparent
serious injuries.
He was admitted Saturday af-
ternoon, suffering from shock
and severe muscular pain in the
stomach.

Obituary
Rose Snowden
The last member of a pioneer
family in Stanley Township,
Margaret Rosamond Snowden
passed away in Scott Memorial
Hospital, Seaforth, on Thursday,
June 29, at the age of 86. Miss
Snowden was the last of five
daughters and two sons born to
Barnard Snowden and his wife,
Elizabeth Westlake.
With the exception of the
past three winters, Miss Snow-
den had lived on the family
homestead, on the •Bluewater
highway, where she was born.
She had been staying in Sea -
forth at the home of Mrs. Thom-
as Storey since last September.
She suffered a stroke three
weeks ago, and had been hospi-
talized since.

Miss Snowden was a lifelong
member of Trinity Anglican
Church, in Bayfield, and was
an active member of the cong-
regation. She attended the
meetings of both the Ladies
Guild and Women's Auxiliary as
long as she was able, and was
a charter member of the WA,
as well as serving as treasurer
for many years.
Surviving are five nephews,
Fred, Thomas and Alfred Hu-
dwie, Robert and Edawrd Sow-
erby; and two nieces, Mrs. Rus-
sell Grainger and Mrs. John
Keyes.

The body rested at the West-
lake funeral home, Zurich, until
Saturday, July 1, when the fu-
neral service was held in the
Bayfield Anglican Church. In-
terment was made in the Bay-
field Cemetery. Rev. E. J. B.
Harrison officiated.
Pallbearers were Bruce Sow-
erby, Kenneth Sowerby, Gerard
Gelinas, James Cameron, Ed-
ward Deichert and Richard Erb.

Destroy Weeds
NOTICE is hereby given to all persons in possession of
land, in accordance with the WEED CONTROL ACT, 1960,
Sec. 3, 13 and 19, that unless noxious weeds growing on their'
lands within the Municipality of the Village of Zurich
are destroyed by July 8, 1961, and throughout the season,
the Municipality may enter upon the said lands and have the
weeds destroyed, charging the costs against the land in
taxes, as set out in the Act.
The co•operation of all citizens is earnestly solicited.
