HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1961-05-04, Page 6PAGE SIX ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS Married Fifty Years Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Hugill, well-known Tuckersmith Town- ship residents, marked their golden wedding anniversary at the Hugill homestead, Highway No. 8, a few miles west of Sea - forth. The couple were mar- ried on April 26, 1911, in Clin- ton, but in order that all the family could be present the ju- bilee celebration was held last Sunday. The homestead was hewn from the bush by Mr. Hugill's grandfather, more than 100 years ago. He is the third Hugill generation to have lived on it. Mr. Hugill, 71, widely known in Western Ontario as a silo contractor, is a son of the late Mr. and Mrs• Jonathan Abra- ham Pfugill; and his wife is the former Martha Gertrude Crich of Tuckersmsith. Mr. Hugill is in excellent health and is act- ively engaged in his contract- ing business, as well as oper- ating his 100 -acre farm. Mrs. Hugill, who suffered a slight stroke, has not been in the best of health for some time. They have a family of six sons and four daughters. There are 25 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Members of the family are: Clarence and Elmer, Clinton; Harold, at home; Arnold and Clifford, Goderich; Wesley, Zurich; Mrs. Frank (Pearl) Cummings, Clin- ton; Mrs. Arnold (Verna) Roth- well, Kitchener, Miss Iona, at home; Mrs. Gordon (Mary) Horner, Kitchener. The family presented their parents with an easy chair. DASHWOOD and DISTRICT (MRS. E. H. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stormes, of St. Thomas, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs• Mervyn Tiernan and Lynda, Alex Hergott Alex Hergott, of 588 Concord Ave., Toronto, former Stephen Township resident, who operated a blacksmith shop in Centralia for many years, passed away in Tor- onto. Surviving are three sons, Arthur and Roy, of Toronto, and Arnold, of Elliott Lake; one brother, Al- bert, of Waterloo; two sisters, Mrs. A. Hohn, of Waterloo and M. La- berta, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Pat Wilds Word has been received of the death of Pat Wilds, in Farwell, Michigan, on Saturday, April 29. He formerly resided on the 16th concession of Stephen Township, and is survived by his wife, in Far- well, Mich., and an aunt, Mrs. Ma- bel Desjardine, of Stephen Town- ship. Funeral service was held in Farwell, Mich, on Tuesday, May 2, at the Coker funeral home. Harry Hoffman, Henry Hoffman and Jim visited in Richmond Hill, with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Evans, last week. Chester Gaiser was removed On Sunday in the Hoffman ambulance day afternoon, with the Hoffman, to Westminster Hospital, having suffered a fall, Stratford District Men's Meeting Men from the churches of Strat- ford, Milverton, Rostack, Tavistock, Sebringville, .South Easthope, Zur- ich, McKillop, Crediton and Rod- ney, as well as from the church of God, Grand Bend, Grand Bend Un- ited Church and Greeway, and the Exeter Pentecostal church, were in- vited to the EUB church for the district meeting, Tuesday, May 2. Guest speaker was Rev. Harry Faught, of Toronto, accordionist and pianist, and Mr. Paul Miller, a trumpeter, from Toronto.
