ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS
THURSDAY, APRIL 20, 1961
Frost In July is the marked time. Should that
The snow fall of mid April was be the easse, projects already plan-
a surprise to all, although there is nod would perhaps be cancelled
for the time being, Other works
nothing unipue about it, for al-
ready it has happened. Even that completed the past year need yearsof
it maybe unusual it was taken for would also suffer for the all funds for all are aware that all
granted that it was the last drip-
ping of the past winter. Some are
under the impression that the year
of 1961 will be different than the
previous ones, they say it will be
filled with wonders, disappoint-
ments, people will be made at
ease. They will be tormented by
uneasiness and walking in their
own light' Someone has already
predicted that a July frost would
scorch all crops and plants to a
crisp, taking their theory from a
winter thunder storm during the
winter months and after summing
up the time in days and weeks af-
ter the storm, the month of July
comes from the lands.
Should the predicted July frost
make its appearance it would
plunge the country in despair,
there would be much hunger for
the reserved sources at the pres-
ent would not last long and before
another crop would come much
could happen.
But regradless to all that, today
a large percent of the population
do not seem to know where the
food comes from and when they
go to market they are sometimes
fussy of what is being offered
them. The farmers product must
go through a few tests, then grad•
ed, and in some cases a large :ain-
ount of the product has already
shrunk in value and a loss to far-
mers, in growing it. The farmers
are not only helpless in marketing
their product at a fair return to
them( but are helpless in other
ways concerning their industry.
They have little to say in the af-
fairs of their work.
They are a helpless group, or-
iginating perhaps from a hay wire
source and with lidtle room for
them in society. From spring till
fall they are expected to comply
with the change of hours, detrim-
ental to them but that by order.
Perhaps some of that dope may be
injurious to them for their wives
and children, but again they are
helpless. In any case, it is an ill
wind that blows no good. God
grant that the July prediction of
frost to destroy all plants and its
after effects, be not true, but
should it be, perhaps a lesson
could be taken from it.
And give enlightment to those
who are responsible for putting
such rulings in force. Let us hope
that the farmers will submit at
least for the meantime and contin-
ue to sow and reap to feed the
world. Humanity depends on
them, even though they are depriv-
ed of voicing their opinion in
home and state affairs. Regard-
less, they will survive in the fut-
ure they have in the past.
