Federation of Agriculture Feels That
Amendments To Game Act Are Welcome
"Ontario farmers will be pleased
to have the amendment to the
Game and Fisheries Act, approved
by the Legislature's Committee on
Game and Fish, put intoeffect."
stated William G. Tilden, persident
of the Ontario Federation of Ag-
riculture. "For the past few years,
our annual convention has been the

Mrs. Mack Speaks
To Kippen East WI
(By our Hensel) correspondent)
Mrs. Wilfred Mack, of Crediton,
was guest speaker at Kippen East
Women's Institute March meeting,
speaking on "Food and Agriculture
Organizations", and part of the ec-
onomic and Social Council of the
United Nations. Her talk was most
interesting and informative,
The meeting held Wednesday af-
ternoon, was at the home of Mrs.
Verne Alderdice, with Mrs. Russell
Brock co -hostess, and Mrs. James
Drummdnd, the president, in char-
ge of the meeting. Members ans-
wered the roll call by naming a
Canadian city, starting with the in-
itial of their first name, and told
what the city was noted for.
bers and delegates over the careless
hunters and fishermen who dam-
age property and maim or kill live-
stock.
A resolution passed at the OFA
1960 annual convention, and sub-
sequently taken to the Ontario Go-
vernment, asked for heavy penal-
ties to be provided for destruction
of farm livestock and property by
careless hunters. The resolution
also called for licensing of persons
who carried firearms for target
practice as well as hunting.
The proposed amendment to the
Game and Fisheries Act reads: "Ev-
ery person is guilty of the offense
of hunting carelessly who, being in
possession of a firearm or airgun
for the purpose of hunting dischar-
ges or causes to be discharged or
handles such firearms or airgun
without due care and attention or
without reasonable consideration
for persons or property, and is lia-
ble to a fine of not more than $500
or to imprisonment for a term of
not more than six months or both."
"If this amendment is followed
up with good policing, providing it
becomes part of the Act, the OFA
requests will in large part have
been met by the Legislature's act-
ion." Mr. Tilden concluded. "We
know that the Ontario Federation
of Anglers and Hunters is anxious
to have good farmer -hunter relat-
ionships, This amendment should
help."
Mrs. Robert Bell reviewed events.
A bus trip was discussed to be ar-
ranged by the committee, Mrs. W.
J. F. Bell, Mrs. Alex McGregor, and
Mrs. Harry Caldwell. The annual
picnic will not be held this year.
The date for the district annual
is May 11, at St. Andrew's United
Church, Kippen, with discussion on
same. Family night will be held
in November. Penny For Friend-
ship colloction will be taken at the
April meeting.
Luncheon was served by Miss
Margaret McKay, Mrs. James Mc-
Naughton, Mrs. Wilmer Broadfoot,
and Mrs. Stewart Pepper.
