The weapon they unleash on the general public is the Easter Seal— a symbol of hope and opportunity provided by the Ontario Society for Crippled Children. Everyone will have now received their Easter Seals, and this year a target of $875,000 in voluntary contribu- tions must be realized or some of the more than 15,000 handicapped kiddies across the province of On- tario will be neglected. From the simple act of sending to everyone a letter and a sheet of Easter Seals, in operation until every crippled to the important business of for- ming the Society's policies in its expansion program for crippled children, the service club members take a keen interest and active part. They take pride in assuming the official liason between the local health authorities and the Society, making it their duty to see that every handicapped child is treated and provided with transportation and the proper braces and applian- ces made necessary by his disabli- ty. More progress in the care and treatment of the crippled child has been made in the past 25 years than during the whole previous history of man -kind. Everyone is asked to help the members of the service clubs to keep this vital program 0,"!, t.4.,,V;P•• •••• • • .t2 TAFT -PAT "NA t 1960, ..Features Symlicate, • rights lieserPet • Um. goo eoCTiN0CF "I'd like scrambled eggs and. bacon, buttered. toast and jelly—but I'll have a cup of black coffee!" retet.i. • • M E SERVED N OUR ENJOY THE FINE ATMOSPHERE OF OUR ATTRACTIVE ALPINE ROOM ODS MN LOUNGE Our Entire Hotel is Equipped wiih "Hi-Fi" System for your Listening Pleasure WE SPECIALIZE IN STEAKS - ICKEN - FISH 1 PHONE 70 — ZURICH Valtralallta „'Vtrita0IME • triO5'5'"'5 ,tititoilif5,4. • 11117:4514:'"' • „:41A.P ig40. Use 25 pounds of nitrogen per acre suggests Profes- sor Tom Lane, soils scientist at the OAC. "The lack of snow and long cold spells during the winter badly browned much of the wheat tops," says Lane. Often the wheat will come through even though it appears to be dead; it will need the extra nit- rogen as soon as growth starts (us- ually sometime in March or early April). And even if the wheat doesn't survive, you haven't lost any nitre the field can be sown again to a crop like corn or summer pasture and these crops will use the nitrogen, he says. "Try to spread when the ground is frozen so the machinery won't damage the crop. You might have to do the job early in the morning if the thaw has started." Other suggestions: Don't top dress wheat with extra nitrogen if you plan to seed down the field to legumes. Extra nitrogen isn't needed if a sod crop with 50 percent or more legume was plowed down for wheat. Extra nitrogen isn't needed if heavy manure applications were made before sowing in the fall—or if lodging is a yearly problem. Don't hesitate to broadcast for- age seed on top of browned wheat Even if the wheat doesn't grow the tops will act as a mulch for the new seedlings. use one 80 -pound bar,' of air monium nitrate or 50 to 60 pounds of urea to supply the 25 pounds of nitrogen. With some fruits, such as apples spices may also be added. About 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and an eighth of a teaspoon of nutmeg are average amounts for one pie. The salt and spices may be combined with the sugar in order to insure maximum distribution of flavour. Fruit pies may be baked before or after freezing but better results are reported by the food and Nu- trition Department Macdonald In- stitute, Guelph, when the pies are baked after freezer storage.
