Unique Farm Forum
The Unique Farm Forum met at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Merrier, on Monday evening, March
13, with about 20 in attendance.
The subject of "Disease control in
farm animals" was under discus-
sion.
The meeting decided that it is
very important for the farmers to
notify the district veterinarian at
once if there is any suspicion of
disease on the property. While
there is considerable control exer-
cised at community sales, the meet-
ing agreed that more care could be
taken to prevent the spread of dis-
ease.
Feed companies are providing a
very good service in the field of
disease prevention and control, and
these services can be used to good
advantage under certain conditions.
A short period of recreation was
followed by a delicious lunch,
which was served by the hostess.

Plans Are Under Way For Large New
spital In Seaforth; Old One Crowded
Planning will begin in May for a
new Seaforth hospital, estimated to
cost about $600,000. It will replace
the present Scott Memorial Hospi-
tal there.
Small Capital Fund
Financing arrangements are not
clear at the moment, the hospital
board was told at its meeting. The
board has a small capital fund of
$40,000, including $20,000 in land.
It is expected additional bed
grants could be allotted to the build-
ing fund but the board would have
to make up about 15 percent of the
cost. Plans will be complete by
midsummer it is hoped.
A site has already been obtain-
ed at the northeast corner of the
town.
Accommodation, meanwhile, con-
tinues to be a problem at the old
hospital. Beds have been set up
in the halls and there is a lengthy
patient waiting list.
Auditors have indicated the hos-
pital will have a small surplus this
year. A report on operations and
a report by the consultants will be
ready before the annual meeting,
early in April.

Garden Work
Bevins In March
March is the ideal time to get
preliminary garden work under
way, according to Ontario Depart-
ment of Agriculture horticulturists.
Tenders shoots of spring bulbs may
be damaged if protective covering
is removed while still frozen, how-
ever. Leaves and straw which are
soft may be removed now, leaving
heavier, frozen materials till later.
Fresh pruned wood of rose bush-
es can be set back severely by late
frost, so delay pruning them till
there is likely to be fine weather.
This is an excellent time to trim
overgrown privet or barberry,
though. Their wounds heal quick-
ly and there is no problem of where
to cut, with no foliage to obscure
the view.
Seeds started now, under glass,
will be ready for the garden as soon 1
as warm weather arrives.

The Bible's National Message
We believe that the Celto-Saxon peoples
are the descendants of God's servant
race and nation. Israel; that our ancient
Throne is the continuation of the Throne
of David; and, in view of present world
conditions, that a general recognition of
this identity .AND its implications is a
matter of vital and urgent importance.
