Bayfield, spent Friday afternoon at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Grainger.
Mrs. Jennie Downies, Strathroy,
returned to her home after spend-
ing a week with Mr. and Mrs. Rus-
sell Grainger.
Miss Louise Talbot, Exeter, spent
the wekend with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs, Clifford Talbot, Sr,
Miss Phyllis Grainger spent the
weekend with Mrs. Robert Greer.
Neighbours and friends held a
surprise birthday party on Thurs-
day evening, at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. George Wilson, it being
Mr. Wilson's birthday. All enjoy-
ed a good time.
Fred Armstrong spent the week-
end with his boyfriend, Danny
Johnston.

visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Wahl, of Listowel.
We are pleased to report that
William Kyle has shown signs of
improvement, at Clinton Public
Hospital.
Mrs. Elgin Thompson, who injur-
ed her back a few weeks ago, is
improving nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Long were
Sunday viistors of F/S and Mrs.
Robert Perkins, at RCAF Station
Clinton.
Mr. Elgin Thompson left Tues-
day evening for Ottawa, where he
will attend the United Dairy Pro-
ducts meeting at the Chatteau Lau-
rier Hotel.

OBITUARY
Mrs. Wegenast
Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Wegenast,
57, of Stratford, died Friday at the
Straftrod General Hospital. She
was born in Hay Township, on Au-
gust 13, 1903, a daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Deichert,
In 1935 she married Edward We-
genast, who pre -deceased her in
1942. Since 1943 until October of
last year she had been the dietitian
at the Stratford YMCA.
Mrs . Wegenast attended Zion
Lutheran Church, in Stratford,
where she was a member of the Un-
ited Lutheran Church Women. She
also belonged to Pythian Sister
Lodge.
Surviving is a daughter, Pauline
Margaret Elizabeth, of Waterloo
College; six brothers, Theodore,
Toronto; Peter, Victor, Jacob, Geor-
ge and Albert, all of Zurich; three
sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Margaret)
Pfaff, of Zurich; Mrs. Edward
(Frieda) Keller, of Dashwood; and
Mrs. Wilfred (Victoria) Eichler, of
New Hamburg.
The body rested at the Heinbuck
funeral home, Stratford, from Sat-
urday noon until Monday, when re-
moval was made to Zion Lutheran
Church, where the funeral service
was held at 2 p.m., with burial in
Avondale Cemetery. Rev. W. Orht
officiated.

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Oesch and
son David Carl, spent a few days
at Windsor.
Miss Laureen Oesch spent few
days with her sister, Mrs. Lloyd
Guenther and family, at Dashwood.

Local Truck Firm
Suffers Heavy Loss
Frank Mitchell, RR 1, Staffa, fa-
ther of three children, died in the
flaming wreckage of his live -stock -
laden truck following a violent
crash with another transport on
Highway 5, about a mile east of St.
George, near Brantford, last Thurs-
day night.
About half the 100 pigs being
carried by the truck died as a re-
sult of the collision, and most eith-
er fatally injured or burned to
death.
The victim was driving an east-
bound truck, owned by Ruston
Transport LTd., of Russeldale and
Zurich. The vehicle turned on its
side after the impact, spilling blaz-
ing gasoline, dead and dying pigs
over the highway.
The other truck narrowly miss-
ed a bridge over a small creek at
the scene, plunged down a 10 -foot
embankment, ripping out a farm

St. George volunteer firemen
were unable to remove the driver
from the flaming truck until about
11 p.m., 90 minutes after the
crash. Traffic was held up for
about two miles in both directions
at the scene of the fatal crash.
Firemen extinguished the blaze be-
fore it'consumed the entire truck;
however they said the cab was gut-
ted.
