The presentation address to the bride -elect was read by Mrs. Rob- ert Chaffe, of Mitchell, and gifts presented by Judy Elder and Vera Tinney. Miss Gwen Chapman, of London, read the gift cards and Mrs. Harold Bell, of Hensall, and Mrs. Milton Pollock, of RR 1, Varna, mothers of the bride and groom elect, assisted in unwrapping the gifts. Rev. R. G. MacMillan, the Director, in- troduced the staff which includes Miss. Clare McGowan, Mrs, Ewan Ross, Miss Gertrude Wilkes, Mrs. J. H. Lauder, Miss Mildred Mar- wick, Mrs. Barry Wetstone and Mrs. Mildred Simpson, and gave a brief outline of each member's area of work. Mr. MacMillan voiced sincere appreciation for the co-operative spirit of the Juvenile and Family Court Judge and the County Judge, as well as that of other depart- ments in the County. He mention- ed also the help received from the Salvation Army, doctors and var- ious church and civic groups. Fos- ter parents in the County received highest commendation. Statistics revealed that final ad- option orders for 58 children were obtained and that 34 children were on adoption probation at the end of December. The Society receiv- ed 61 applications for adoption dur- ing 1960, anud Mr. MacMillan poin- ted but the ever increasing empha- sis upon adoption of older child- ren, so that every child might have a father and mother. Efforts were. made on behalf of 64 families to keep the 231 children involved in their own homes. Mr. MacMillan stressed that he Society performed many services which are not easily designated and that there is an in- creasing demand for service in ev- ery department. In his chairman's remarks, Mr. Hugh Berry spoke of the work that had been done in the County in the past years by the C.A.S. and ex- pressed thanks to Mrs. Chaffee for her many years as the Director. Mr. Frank Sills, of Seaforth, pre- sided for the election of officers. The chairman of the nominating committee, Mrs. Howard Klumpp, Dashwood, read her report, which was accepted. The treasurer, B. G. Hanly, gave the financial statement. The financial, report showed. an excess of $110.33 in revenue over expenditures.
