Zurich Citizens News, 1961-02-09, Page 8PAGE EIGHT Discussion Held On Technical School At a meeting held in Seaforth, on Monday, January 23, county far- mers' union and education officials decided to petition the department of education for a survey to deter- mine the need for a technical -vo- cational type school in Huron Coun- ty. The meeting was called by the Huron County Farmers' Union and was attended by about 20. The re- quest will be forwarded through Charles S. MacNaughton, MPP, to Education Minister Robarts. It is planned to seek an appoint- ment with Mr. Robarts and have a delegation travel of Toronto to aug- ment the request with an oral pre- sentation. She said that of the unemployed in Huron County 80 percent have only a grade eight education, and without technical training are han- dicapped in finding work. "We want to reach this 80 percent who are not employable." Robert Taylor, of Varna, Huron County director for the Ontario Farmers' Union, was chairman of the meeting. The third member of the union committee spearhead- ing the move is Robert Welsh, of Goderich Township. Huron County's new warden, Iv- an Forsyth, of Tuckersmith, mem- bers of Huron County Council's committee on education and rep- resentatives from a number of area home and school groups atten- ded the meeting. Frank Ellwood Leaves Hensall (By our Hensall correspondent) Frank Ellwood, CNR agent in Hensall for the past six years, leav- es for Oshawa, on Monday, Febru- ary 13, where he has been transfer- red. Mrs. Ellwood and Wayne will leave to rejoin him in the near future. During their stay in Hensall, Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood have made many friends and have been active wor- kers in the church and other organ- izations. Mr. Ellwood is the present treas- urer of the Kinsmen Club, and a past secretary, people's and rect- or's warden of St. Paul's Anglican Church. Mrs. Ellwood is also the preesnt treasurer of the Kinette Club, and holds other offices in the club.
