Discussion Held On
Technical School
At a meeting held in Seaforth,
on Monday, January 23, county far-
mers' union and education officials
decided to petition the department
of education for a survey to deter-
mine the need for a technical -vo-
cational type school in Huron Coun-
ty.
The meeting was called by the
Huron County Farmers' Union and
was attended by about 20. The re-
quest will be forwarded through
Charles S. MacNaughton, MPP, to
Education Minister Robarts.
It is planned to seek an appoint-
ment with Mr. Robarts and have a
delegation travel of Toronto to aug-
ment the request with an oral pre-
sentation.

th, women sub -director for the
Huron Farmers' Union, said the re-
quest is prompted by a desire to
"do something for the 80 percent
of young people who do not fin-
ish high school."
She said that of the unemployed
in Huron County 80 percent have
only a grade eight education, and
without technical training are han-
dicapped in finding work. "We
want to reach this 80 percent who
are not employable."
Robert Taylor, of Varna, Huron
County director for the Ontario
Farmers' Union, was chairman of
the meeting. The third member
of the union committee spearhead-
ing the move is Robert Welsh, of
Goderich Township.
Huron County's new warden, Iv-
an Forsyth, of Tuckersmith, mem-
bers of Huron County Council's
committee on education and rep-
resentatives from a number of
area home and school groups atten-
ded the meeting.
Speakers included Lawrence
Plumsteel, principal of Seaforth
District Collegiate, and J. H. Kin-
kaid, public school inspector of Hu-
ron.
