Stanley Council
(continued from page 1)
the school. Steckle said that the
architect had suggested cutting
costs by altering construction
slightly and substituting some of
the materials used, This plan was
scrapped by the Department of
Education.
Pin -pointed was the cost of the
electrically aperated door which
divides the gyms. The cost of
this door was about $8,000.00. "The
Department of Education deman-
ded this type of door," said Steck-
le, We,a
as a board, have no auth-
ority in this field. We are dictated
to by the Department of Educa-
tion,"
Bob Peck, who was appointed
to the high school board recently,
and has attended only two school
board meetings, accompanied Mr.
Steckle to the Council meeting.
Because he was a new board mem-
ber, Peck was not asked for any
information, or held responsible
for any action taken by the board.
Council passed a motion to ap-
point the Reeve to contact the
Township's engineer to get his ap-
proval, then engage a local con-
tractor to deepen Branch No. 5, of
The Brucefield drain. The work
is to be done as soon as the wea-
ther permits.
Current road expenses were pre-
sented by Bill Taylor, road super-
intendent. He estimated that he
had exceeded his annual budget by
only $300.00, and was complemen-
ted by the council on his manage-
ment.
It was unanimously approved by
council that h t the Reeve v receive
$300 and each councilor be paid
$200 for their services to the
Township. There were many spec-
ial meetings called during the year,
for which no extra pay is allotted.
It was decided to use the Town-
ship truck 24 hours a day if nec-
essary, to keep the roads plowed
until the grader is replaced, as it is
expected that is will be at least a
month before Stanley will have
the services if it's own grader
again.
