That would shorten the cold, stormy days, which are ahead of us during the mid -winter season. Mr. and Mrs. Morley Fournier, and family, of London, spent the weekend with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Corriveau, of this highway, A few of those who have cot- tages along the lake, in different summer resorts, took possession of them over the weekend. They took advantage of the summer like weather the last few days. Those who have been on the sick list, we are glad to report are well on the road to recovery, and with a few more sunny days, they will again feel themselves. Mrs. Theresa Hartman, of the village of Zurich, and her son Cyril, were Sunday evening last visitors with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Ducharrne, of the Blue Water Highway. VARNA NEWS Word has been received of the death of Lillian Dunkin, wife of the late Harry Thompson, in her 77th year. The late Mrs, Thomp- son, was a former resident of Stanley. Four sons survive, Clar- ence, of Vancouver, George and William, of Sakatchewan, and John, of Whitefish, Ontario. One On Sunday evening last, a card party was held in St. Joseph's Par- ish Hall, sponsored by the C.W.L. With a fair crowd in attendance, prizes, as usual, were awarded to the lucky ones. People like to at- tend such gatherings, besides play- ing cards, they chat, renew past incidents, and it is also an occas- ion to meet old friends, and make new ones. The revenue from the party also goes to a good cause. The Jeffery contractors, and their staff of men are busy moving from one environment to another to keep their work lined up. They are hoping for the nice weather to continue, for many more days, so that they may complete the outside work, then when colder weather comes they will not be delayed. Some rather severe thunder storms, in the middle of the mon- th of November, proved to be very destructive, causing much pro- perty damage, at the same time leaving much work ahead for the unfortunate ones, who were hard hit by the passing storms. However, many are happy over the incident, especially those who travel much over the highways, and by -ways, and others, whose daily occupations are mainly out of doors. There is encouragement for them, for at least those who beleive in signs that are taken from the older citizens. Those old timers put much trust in signs, which they inhereted from their ancestors, centuries ago. To- day, there are other means of pre- dicting the future, and naturally all the old sayings receive little or no approval.
