Couple Returned
From Extensive Trip
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Elder with
their children, Ken, Jean, Kathy
and John, spent the past wekend
in Hensall and Zurich. They visit-
ed with Mrs. Elder's father John
Passmore, and with Mr. and Mrs.
R. M. Peck, in Hensall, and with
the Delbert Geiger family near
Zurich.
Lorne recently returned from
a five week, tour of. Germany, Swit-
zerland, France, England, Scotland
and Ireland. He toured 35 factor-
ies all associated with the produc-
tion of springs, and also took time
out to visit his ancestral homes in
Scotland and Ireland. The Elder
family came to Canada early in
the last century from near Edin-
burgh, and Lorne visited some of
the clan still living on the origin-
al farm,
His mother's family (Smillie)
came from near Belfast in Ireland
in 1821, and members of this fam-
ily still reside in the village in Ir-
eland. He had an interesting visit
with these folk. Lorne has made
a study of both family trees, ex-
tending over a 14 -year period, and
took advantage of these visits to
examine old family records dating
back to 1720.
He reports that European industry
is extremely busy and in fact, un-
able to expand because of the
shortage of help. They have nev-
er known such prosperity as they
are now experiencing. Approxim-
ately one half of the output of
European factories is being expor-
ted to all countries of the world.
Labour rates vary from one third
to ane half of those in Hamilton
and labour is much more produc-
tive there than here in Canada, ex-
cept where we have gone to auto-
mation.
Of interest to Hensall people
would be the fact that vacation
trailers are becoming quite popu-
lar in Europe and many were to
be seen on the highways.
Lorne is chief engineer of the
Wallace Barnes Co., in Hamilton,
Canada's largest spring manufac-
turers, this company is a subsid-
iary of the Associated Spring Cor-
poration with many factories in the
USA, Puerto Rico and affiliations
in Argentina.

CHRIST IS THE ANSWER
WHEN YOU NEED PHYSICAL HEALING
I Pet, 5: 14-16 — Is any sick among you? let him call for
the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing
him with oil in the name of the Lord! And the prayer of faith
shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be
forgiven him.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another
that ye may be healed.
