Wheat Producers
Receive $56Q,574
Ontario wheat producers will
share a total of $560,574.00 for On-
tario wheat marketed from July 1,
1959, to June 30, 1960. This amount
is equivalent to the nine cent levy
collected. Individual producer pay-
ments are now being distributed.
In announcing the payment, K.
A. Standing, secretary -manager of
the Ontario Wheat Producers' Mar-
keting Board, said the amount will
be shared by approximately 24,000
producers.
Slightly more than six million
bushels of the 1959 wheat crop
was marketed.
Commencing on the producer
payments, Russell T. Bolton, RR 1,
Dublin, a director of the Wheat
Producers' Board, pointed out that
272,576 bushels of wheat • were
marketed from Huron from 988
growers. The total payment is
$24,531.84.
From Perth, 82,576 bushels were
marketed from 350 producers at a
payment of $7,431.93.
Under the Ontario Wheat Pro-
ducers' Marketing Plan, a 9 cent
levy is collected by the board
through the dealers on delivery as
a price stabilizing measure. Should
producer sales to dealers become
greater than the market demand,
the dealers may offer the excess
amount to the board. The board
is then obligated to purchase the
surplus wheat from the dealers.
Disposal of this wheat is financed
by the nine cent levy.
Each year, the unused portion
of the levy collected is returned to
the producers w h o marketed
wheat. Last year the board made
a five cent per bushel payment, the
balance of four cents per bushel
was obsorbed in the cost of mark-
eting three and one-half million
bushels of surplus wheat.

London, spent the weekend with
her grandmother, and uncle, Isa-
dore Ducharme, on this highway.

ver, called on friends in this neigh-
borhood, on Friday last.
Mr, and Mrs. Leon Bedard, of
this highway, and Mr, and Mrs.
Michael Masse, of London, motor-
ed to Windsor, on Saturday, where
they called on relatives.
Four-year-old Ellen Jeffrey, who
had her tonsils removed in Clin-
ton hospital, on Friday, has now
returned to her home in this vic-
inity. We hope she will greatly
benefit from it.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Brisson, and
family, of Detroit, spent the week-
end with Mrs. Valerie Cantin, in St.
Joseph.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hartman,
Francis and Maureen, spent Sunday
afternoon last with the former's
grandparents, on the Blue Water
Highway.
We are glad to report that those
who are hospitalized in St. Joseph's
hospital, London, from the St.
Joseph neighbourhood, returned to
their homes on Sunday. We 'sin-
cerely hope that the two boys,
Stanley Smith and Peter Jeffrey,
will hove a speedy recovery.
After disagreeable weather for
some time, we now believe we are
in the midst of Indian summer. At
least the 1iist few days have been
pleasant and we expect a few more
before closing up.
The recent rains and snowfall
has helped the farmers in their
plowing. They took full advantage
of it, and with a full week of long
hours in their fields most of them
are through. For many, the water
supply is still their great problem,
they are hoping for a down pour
of rain before the winter sets in.
Those with a large stock to wa-
ter are already showing signs of
uneasiness. They are aware of the
drugery it will impose on them of
hauling water on cold and nippy
mornings to complete their barn
chores. Perhaps after Indian sum-
mer passes away there will be some
change, and we would expect a No
vember splash to soak the land.
