General Produces Three New Lines;
Calgary Plant Opened By Mayor
General Coach's new '61 model
mobile homes are being well re-
ceived by both dealers and the
public. Vice-president William C.
Smith said last week.
"We're getting many favorable
comments on the new lines," he
stated.
The new models feature the new
homestyle trend to straight lines,
offset doors and porches.
Three new models are out —
two General and one Zephyr. A
second Zephyr model is expected
to be released shortly.
Although current sales a r e
down, the firm expects the pic-
ture to brighten in the new year.
The plant's annual fall shut-
down has been extended to two
weeks this year. Mr. Smith re-
vealed, partly because of sales and
partly because of the new model
changeover.
The firm will close from Nov-
ember 7 to November 19. In pre-
vious years the shutdown was for
one week only, allowing senior em-
ployees their second week's holi-
days.
New Mid States of Canada Ltd.
plant in Calgary was officially op-
ened October 16, heralded by a
special section in The Calgary He-
rald.
The Calgary plant permits
Vought Industries Inc., parent firm
of both General and Mid -States,
to serve Western Canada with its
first line of Canadian -built units.
It produced its first unit in June
and is now putting out two units
a day.
The opening ceremony was con-
ducted by Calgary Mayor Harry
Hays.
