Large Crowd Attends Zone Rally Of
South Huron Gideons At Grand Bend
Representatives from the Strat-
ford, St. Thomas, Woodstock, Lon-
don and South Huron Gideon
camps attended the zone four rally
in Grand Bend last Saturday.
Over 40 Gideons from the zone
attended the afternoon session,
while 110 sat down for the eve-
ning banquet. Several of the
member's wives and guests were
present.
During the afternon session, it
was revealed that the group had
distributed 6,732 New Testaments
and 537 Bibles to school children
in the zone. Of this total, the
Huron camp reported the distribu-
tion of 697 Testaments and 250
Bibles.
Edgar Cudmore, president of
the Huron camp, also reported that
86 schools had been visited and
most of the Bibles had been dis-
tributed to students in grade five.
He also reported on a number of
church services that the members
had conducted as well as the dis-
tribution of Bibles to hotels, mo-
tels and hospitals.
Mr. Cudmore was chairman for
the evening banquet and the spec-
ial speaker was Herb Marsh, Ar-
kona, a member of the Gideons'
Sarnia camp.
During the business session,
Russ Piggot, London, was re-elec-
ted as zone leader.
Dr. Harry Godsell, Pontiac,
Michigan, a summer resident at
Grand Bend, brought greetings
from the American Gideons.
A cheque for $119 was presen-
ted to the Gideons' Huron camp by
Rev. Robert Hiltz, Exeter. The
money was a donation from the
proceeds of the gospel services
which were held at the Starlite
Drive -In theatre, Shipka, this sum-
mer.
The Tabernacle quartet from St.
Marys favored with several selec-
tions at the banquet, and a sing
song conducted by T. Harry Hoff-
man, Dashwood.
Members attending the rally
learned that there are 1,800 Gid -
eons in Canada at present, repre-
senting one for every 10,000 Can-
adians.

It is a fact, these white Indians
are civilized, but live primitively.
They have not had a clergyman
for 400 years, but are Christians,
and have a Church. The language
is not written or printed but they
have "books", some of them hun-
dreds of years old, which they
make themselves, and of course
"read".
They reside on an isolated pla-
teau above an altitude of 15,000
feet in Peru. In the book "Gyp-
sies of The Pampas" the author
gives a profusely illustrated ac-
count of her three months visit
with these people in 1957.
