Alvin Betties, president, said 24 new members have joined this year, and membership now to- tals 200, The dinner was served by a group of the Women's Auxiliary of Blyth United Church; places were set for 199. A. E. Innes, Brantford, presi- dent of the Holstein Association f Canada, was introduced by' Hume Clutton, Goderich. Mr. In- nes, in his address, stressed breed- ing for size. "Size is important," he said, "Pay attention to size, and do not run into the pitfalls some of the other breeds have run in- to." "There should be more herds for breeding stock." said Mr. In- nes. "but beware of the red fac- tor." Mr. Innes said he has been re- ceiving complaints that dairymen can not get markets for their milk. The Association is helping, he said, with an extension fund, into which $110,000 was paid this year. "'Volume and efficiency has made this possible," said Mr. Innes. The picture looks good for the black -and -white breed." Entertainment was provided by Rud Orr, cornetist, accompanied by Mrs. G. Johnston at the piano. The four Storey sisters of Sea - forth provided a dance number, and a duet was sung by the Hoop - man sisters of Auburn. News of Kippen The immediate families of Mrs. M. Dickert, mother of Mrs. Nor- man Dickert, held a birthday ga- thering at the home of Mr. Jack Dickert, of Harrison, Mrs. Dick- ert was celebrating her 90th birthday. The table was attractively set, and centered with a birhtday cake in the form of an open Bible. Mrs. Dickert was presented with some very nice gifts by her fam- ily. Bad Luck Mr. R. Verbeck, of RR 3, Kip - pen, was taken by Bonthron's am- bulance, Sunday, 'to South Huron Hospital, Exeter. He received in- juries to his back while at work. X-rays were taken on Monday. On SaSturday of the same week, Mrs. Verbeck suffered second de- gree burns to her body. She slipped while carrying a vessel of boiling water, which scalded her when she fell. Dr. Gans, of Ex- eter, had her taken to South Huron Hospital, Exeter, where she was treated. Mrs. Verbeck returned home the same day. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Wier - ren and family, accompanied Mrs. Schovl Backoop, of Holland, re - Trophies for the premier breed- ers and premier exhibitor for 1960 were presented to Ross Mar- shall. Runner-uP was Thomas Hayden and Son, Gerrie. Third prize in the premier exhibitor competition went to the Huron Caunty Home, Clinton. A silver trophy for the best aged cow with a lifetime produc- tion of more than 100,000 pounds of milk went to Thomas Hayden and Son. A silver casserole for the best progeny of dam went to Ross Marshall, and a prize for the best junior herd to Thomas Hay- den and Son.
