Ontario Chamber
Suggests Changes
The Ontario Chamber of Com-
merce has made a resounding
plea to the Select Committee of
the Ontario Legislature on Motor
Vehicle Insurance for increased
financial responsibility legisation
to protect the citizens of Ontario.
It endorsed the "pink slip" meth-
od of demonstrating financial re-
sponsibility -a method used in
some other provinces,
In addition, it called for the
skilled use of the Demerit System
in order to ensure that the min-
ority of drivers who cause most
of the accidents be appropriately
but equitably curbed.
Improved protection for the
public through the Ontario Un-
satisfied Judgement Fund, which
the Chamber strongly endorses in
principle, was urged, with an in-
crease in bodily injury limits to
$20,000 and $40,000 recommend-
ed.
The Ontario Chamber of Com-
merce feels that these measures
would achieve any advantages
possible through compulsury au-
tomobile insurance without any of
the regimentation by The Ontario
Chamber of Commerce included
those for improvement of driver
instruction for young people and
more attention to the mechanical
fitness of vehicles.
