New Teacher Is
Hired For Job
At High School
Employment of a junior English
teacher, which will bring the staff
up to 26, was approved by SHDHS
board last Tuesday night.
John S. MacMillan, London,
began his duties Monday night.
A college graduate without pre-
vious teaching experience or train-
ing,he has been employed in a city
printing firm. He has applied for
a letter of permission to teach
until he secures qualifications.
Several new projects in conn-
ection with the addition were
authorized by the board.
Extension of the Gidley St.
sidewalk to the west end of the

building and development of a
turning circle for busses in the
same area will be done by Frank
Van Bussell, and Sons. Ltd., con-
tractor's for the addition, at a cost
of $740.
A storage cupboard for athletic
equipment will be erected in the
corridor between the two gym-
nasiums.
Teachers were authorized to
attend a conference in Listowel
on October 27.
The board agreed to send Sec-
retary E. D. Howey and Mrs. Bert
Ostland to a cafeteria conference
in Walkerton on October 15.
Payment of $1,070 for black -
topping of the driveway on the
west side of the school was app-
roved. A new drain has been
installed along the lane to carry
off water which has been flood-
ing properties to the west.

ener, and Mr. and Mrs, Mose
Erb, Zurich, visited with Mr. and
Mrs, Amos Gingerich on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schwindt
and family, Baden, visited with
friends in this vicnity over the
weekend.
M r s . Elizabeth Oesch spent
Thursday at London, accompanied
by her daughter, Mrs. 13ort Faber,
of Kippen.
Mr. and William Steckle and son
Robert were Sunday guests with
the former's parents, Mr, and Mrs.
Dan Steekle and family.
Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs.
Curtis Gingerich and family were
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Bender and
son, Toronto, Mr. Noah Bender and
Mr. Ezra Bender, New Hamburg.
Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Erb, acc-
ompanied by Carol and Katherine
spent the weekend at Indianna,
U.S.A.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Soper and
Ruth, of Staffordville, were Sun-
day guests with Mr. and Mrs. Peter
Gingerich.
Stephen Township
Plans New Bridges
Stephen township council has
requested plans and estimates
for the rebuilding or replacing of
four bridges for 1961.
The spans are those adjacent
to the farms of Augustus Latta,
Roy Morenz, Ezra Webb and Tom
Lamport,
The 1961 'assessment roll, which

total is $3,744,950 compared to
$3,679,360 last year,
Population is down slightly from
2,545 to 2,525.
Tenders will be called for the
sale of an old grader and a V -
type plow which the township
plans to dispose of.
Council decided not to make any
rebates on drains which do amount
to $1.00.
Reeve Glenn Webb presided.
Next meeting will be held Novem-
ber 1.
Women's Institute
District meeting
Nine branches were represented
at the fall executive meeting of
South Huron District Women's
Institute held in Hensall last Tues-
day.
The two projects for Huron to
be discussed 'at Huron County rally
to be held in Knox Church,
Auburn on October 17, are: a
bursary for a ward of the Child-
ren's Aid Society, and helping the
CNIB in Huron with a picnic and
church gathering. Mrs. Philip Hero
was named a voting delegate for
the rally.
The 'East to Live' training school
will be held in Hensall November
22, with each institute sending two
or three delegates. District leader
training ;school for 'The Third
Meal," will be held in Hensall
October 19 and 20, from 10 a.nx.
to 4 p.m.
Mrs. Franklin Skinner was
named district delegate to the area
convention in London, Oct. 31 and
Nor. 1 and 2.
Exeter Fair exhibits were dis-
cussed, and Dashwood Women's
Institute were delegated to choose
the list of articles for WI exhibit
at the 1961 fair.
