Behind the "no -hit" pitching of
Jim Attrill, the Dashwood Tigers
clobbered the Zurich Lumberkings
10-2 in the first game of the best -
of -five playoff series last Friday
night in Dashwood. The Tigers
pounced on two Zurich hurlers for
a total of 17 hits in the eight -in-
ning game.
Led by Steve Mitro, with three
hits in three times at bat, and Bob
Meharg with three hits in four
times, only one Dashwood player
failed to get a hit in the game,
Pete Ravelle, Jerry Bell, Jim At -
trill, Don Genttner and Dave Ratz
each banged out two safeties. Ray
Webb was the only player to go
hitless on the Tiger lineup. Three
of their hits were doubles.

Ken Patterson started on the
mound for Zurich, and was tou-
ched freely for 14 hits in the five
innings he worked. Johnnie Masse
came on in relief in the sixth, and
gave up three hits in the two in-
nings he hurled. In the seventh,
Masse struck out the side.
Attrill looked good in throwing
his no-hitter. even though he walk-
ed nine men. Walks and errors
caused the two Zurich runs to be
scored. He struck out five men.
Dashwood bunched their runs
in four innings, sending in four in
the first, one in the second, two
in the fifth, and three more in the
sixth.
Only one double play was exe-
cuted in the game—that by Zur-
ich in the fourth. The locals com-
mitted six errors, compared to
Dashwood's four.

Mr. and Mrs, Noel Laporte, of
Drysdale, motored to London Bres-
cia Hall to visit with their daugh-
ter, who is a Nun there,
We are happy to report that Mrs.
Fred Simon, who had not been
feeling well of late, is now well
on the mend.
CHANGING TIMES
Mr. and Mrs. George Kushat and
family, of Kitchener, and Mr, and
Mrs. Elmer Sherky, of Marine Ci-
ty. were Sunday last visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bedard. Mr.
Bedard told us that on Saturday
last till late in the evening he had
three combines in, his wheat field,
which is so much different than in
the primitive days of this parish.
First crops were cut with the sickle
then the sheaf reaper with hand
binders behind. Today on the com-
bines you sit pretty — sometimes
under a parasol for comfort. Still
more is forthcoming in the way
of ease and comfort.
SURPRISE PARTY
The home of Mr. and Mrs, Dol-
ph Sopha, of the Bluewater high-
way was taken by surprise on Sat-
urday evening, when their chil-
dren entered their home to pay
honour and respect to their fath-
er on his 62nd birthday.
The Sophas were unaware of
the surprise, but in a few minutes
adjusted themselves and from th-
ere on like good parents the home
was opened for gaiety until nearly
dawn of the following morning.
Those who attended were from
Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Sopha, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence So-
pha, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence So-
pha, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
Sopha; from Mt, Carmel, Mr. and
Mrs. John Mohony and family; and
from Zurich, Mr. and Mrs, Harry
Dietrich and family. There were
nine grandchildren attending.
The birthday cake was prepared
by those children and other re-
freshments as well, to avoid work
and worry to their parents. Music
was also furnished for the occa-
sion, such as dancing and merry
making.
After wishing their father many
more happy birthdays, Mr. Sopha
then gave a suitable reply, and
thanked them for their gifts and
their presence to commemorate
his birthday.
