The Pinery is patrolled continual- ly by the Provincial Police, In the developing of this park, the Department of Lands and For- ests has tried to retain as much of the natural beauty of the forests and beaches as possible. The many miles of roads are flanked by unending stretches of oaks, and red and white pines, with stands of soft maple, black cherry, hickory, birch, beech and poplar trees, throughout which deer and other wildlife may be found. Although reserved for canoes only, the river has been partially dammed to increase its natural beauty. Great rafts of river lilies lie along both banks. The quiet ri- ver bed gives the Pinery Provincial Park unique features. Originally part of the Aux Sables River, a nine -mile stretch has been cut off at both ends in past years, and although a dead river bed, it flows quite markedly southward, This warm water, along with the shelter offered by the dunes in the winter, provides a small na- tural area of milder climate. Thus, one will find along the river, plant life such as tulip trees, sassafrass, blackberry and dwarf flowering dogwood, all found more common- ly in southern climates. A boat launching area has been provided for canoes and rowboats only, near the south bridge. Picnickers will find ten large parking lots. Each of these lots has water and toilet facilities. The long beach parking lot has large modern comfort stations. North of the picnic area, boating enthusiasts will find a boat launching area. There is also a large picnic area, with parking space, water, and toi- let facilities provided, near the ri- ver, and the south bridge. The beaches supervised by life- guards, are bordered by miles of rolling dunes, covered by wind- blown sand grasses which provide YORK excellent places for sun-bathing and picnics. CAMPING AREA Turning south at the park head- quarters administration building, brings one to the park camping area. Here, sheltered by sand dunes, and well wooded, the 500 campsites each feature a parking area, picnic table, and grill. Con- veniently located are wells, toi- lets, and two large comfort sta- tions, which also have laundry fa- cilities. A boat launching area with suitable parking space has been provided for the convenience of campers. The rates for campsites are $1.00 daily or $5.00 weekly, with free firewood supplied at the mainten- ance area. The maximum length of stay for campers is 28 days. Group camping areas have also been provided at the extreme south end of the cupping area. There is also a large overflow ar- ea behind the Dunes Camp Office with limited facilities should the regular campsites be filled. TOP PRICES PAID FOR — CREAM EGGS POULTRY Give Us A Call !
