The high flying Dashwood Tigers thumped the Zurich Lumberkin.gs 10-2 on Monday night in Dashwood, to ring up their 10th victory of the season. The Zurich erew played their poorest game of the season, show - Stratford Nationals Edge Zurich 8-6 In Classic City The Stratford Nationals edged out the Zurich Lumberkings 8-6 last Thursday night, in a game played under the lights in the Clas- sic City. A bad first inning, in which the Nats scored five runs, was the big difference in the two teams. Bob Welsh went all the way for Zurich, and after a rough first inning settled down to pitch a good ball game, He gave up 10 hits over the nine inning route, struck out five, and gave up four bases on balls. Former Zurich star Jim Attrell again pitched himself to an easy victory, as he gave up nine scat- tered hits, struck out eight, and walked five. Ken Patterson started on the mound for Zurich, and was pound - for nine hits before being re- placed by Bob Welsh, Welsh gave up only five hits in the five in- nings he worked. The clutch hitting of Steve Mitro was the spark the Tigers needed to gain another victory over their arch rivals. He drove in six runs, as he smashed out a three -run ho- mer in the third, as well as steal- ing home in the sixth. Don Guen- ther, Jerry Bell, Bob Meharg and Mitro all had two hits for the win- ners, while Bob Welsh paced the losers with three singles. The guests were present from Vera Beach, Florida, London, Lucan, and surrounding community. The picnic was in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin L. Routzon, (nee Florence Hayter), from Vera Beach Florida, who have been on holi- days with her two sisters and sis- ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alf Mof- fat, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dawson, and Mrs. Minnie Hayter. Southpaw John Masse held the visitors to one hit in the six - inning game, a single to Toni Dick in the second. He walked eight. The locals banged out 10 base hits in their five rounds at bat. Ron Deichert led the assault with three hits in three tries while Earl Wagner and John Masse each had two. Bob Johnston, Wayne Willert, and Gregory Willert each hit safe- ly once. John Masse led the /locals to their win, sriking out 13 in the six -inning contest and giving up only two hits. Earl Wagner showed plenty of punch at the plate for Zurich; lin- ing out three hits in threetimes at bat. Bob Johnston smashed out two, and John Masse and Bill Wag- ner each one. Zurich scored all their runs one at a time, in the first, sec- ond, fourth and sixth innings. Clausius A well-known Zurich district farmer, Robert Herman Clausius, passed away in South Huron Hos- pital, Exeter, on Sunday, July 17. Born in Hay Township on March 28, 1896, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Clausius, Mr. Clausius, who was not mar- ried, had been sick only a couple of weeks. Surviving are two brothers, Hen- ry, Zurich, and Elmore, Windsor; two sisters, Mrs. William (Louisa) Facey, Tavistock, and Miss Amelia Clausius, Tavistock. The body rested at the Westlake ftmerall home, Zurich, until Wed- nesday when removal was made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where a public funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Burial was made in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Go- shen Line. Rev. W. P. Fischer of- ficiated. Pallbearers were: Harvey Claus- ius, Albert Clausius, Hugh Claus- ius, Wayne Clausius, Elmer Beier - ling and Edmund Becker. Mrs. H. Hoffman Mrs. Henry Hoffman, the form- er Margaret Stacey, of Usborne Township, passed away in South Huron. Hospital, Exeter, on Tues- day, July 19. She was 82 years old. Surviving besides her husband are one son, T. Harry, Dashwood; and three daughters, Mrs, Norman (Myrta) Evans, Richmond Hill; Mrs. Mervyn (Alice) Tiernan, Dash- wood; and Mrs. Kenneth (Gert- rude) McCrae, Dashwood. The body is resting at the T. Harry Hoffman funeral home, Dashwood, where the funeral ser- vice will take place on Friday, Ju- ly 22, at 2 p.m. Burial will take place in the Exeter Cemetery, 0 CROP REPORT D. H.
