Student of SS 4 Describes Recent
Bus Trip They Made To Goderich
(By Roy McAdams, Grade 8 stu-
dent of Hay Township School
Area)
On June 22, the pupils of S.S.
4, 8, 12, and 15, of Hay Township,
went on a very fascinating trip to
Goderich. After the bus picked us
up, we started on the not Jong but
not too short trip to our destina-
tion.
The first place of interest that
we visied was the County Court
House. The pupils went into the
place where the County Council
meets. The room that seemed to
interest me the most was the
court room. There were two jury
boxes, one for the Grand Jury,
which has thirteen members, and
one for the case jury which has
twelve members,
After a short, brisk walk, we
came to the newspaper office. In
the printing office the most inter-
esting features were the two Lino-
type machines, and the big print-
ing press.
We all then piled into the bus,
and started off again. The next
stop was the museum. Of all the
many things in the museum (of
which I haven't the time and pa-
per to relate), I thought the Plea-
sure and Punishment' room was
the most interesting. In it for pun-
ishxnent was one of the first jail
cells in Howick Township. There
was also an assortment of balls and
chains, and many handcuffs. For
peasure there was a collection of
old liquor bottles and jugs, and
there were even some old tires
there, which were used on the
earliest pleasure cars. At length,
the stay at the museum was over,
and we went to Harbour Park
where we were allowed an hour
for lunch,
The hour too soon passed, and
we were on our way again to the
Sheaffer Pen Co. plant. There, we
saw how ink was bottled, and how
pen nibs were coated. We also
learned that there were special
pens for left hands. The values pf
some of the pens astonished. me.
They were priced from $1.98 to
$250.00.
The next stop was at Bisset's
Dairy, after which we were to
visit Dunlap's Tomb. At the dairy,
we saw the ice-cream machine,
and each of us got a free ice-
cream cone. At Dunlop's Tomb
we saw the inscription and the

wall around it.
We got on the bus again and
didn't stop until we carne to the
Knox Presbyterian Church. There
we saw the magnificent auditor-
ium, the council room, the recre-
ation room, the little chapel, the
parlour, the very modern kitchen,
and the Sunday School rooms. In
all, it is a very beautiful church.
We then went down to the har-
bour where we were .alowed to get
refreshments. After that we went
to Laithwaite's where we saw men
and animals made out of stone.
After an interesting ten min-
utes, we started off on the long
trip home, It was a good trip but
it was even better to get home,

Highlights of Visit To Goderich
Described By Various Area Students
THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Last Wednesday we went on a
trip to Goderich. We went into the
Presbyterian Church. The windows
had coloured pictures on them.
We saw a whole lot of little cribs
for the babies. They had •a big
Sunday School for the chidren,
They had a nice soft rug all the
way up the aisle. We could have
easily got lost in such a big church.

THE TRIP TO THE MUSEUM
When the bus got to the Muse-

THE SHEAFFER PEN PLANT
On our bus trip we went to the
Sheaffer Pen Co. One man would
take 20 children in a group and
show them the building. One man
took the group that I was in and
showed us how they made ink.
Then he showed us how they made
the cartridges for the pens. Then
he took us over to some pens. He
showed us many pens, He showed
us one that was for men. It was
a black one and it was very fat.
He showed us some pens for wo-
men which were gold and silver
with a sort of shining ring around
the centre. He told us that the
pens cost from one dollar and
ninety-five •cents to two hundred
