Dr. and Mrs. Fred Hess, Port Credit, were week end visitors at the home of his mother, Mrs. Mary Hess, in Zurich, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Letts, London, spent the week end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Kalbfleisch. 1'Ir. and Mrs. Grant Mayo, and family, Hanover, were week end visitors with their friends in Zur- ich. Mr. and Mrs, Don Hartman and family, London, spent the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs4 Ben McCann. Mr, and Mrs. Floyd Buehler and family, Waterloo, were Sunday vi- sitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sol Baechler, Mrs. Mary Manson and grand- son, Robert, and Mrs. Nancy Koeh- ler were visiting friends in Kit- chener and St. Jacobs. Mr. and Mrs. James Riponi, Belleville, were week end visi- tors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Siebert. Miss Sharon Block, who is em- ployed at Grand Bend, spent sev- eral days at the home of her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Block. Miss Nancy Craig has returned to Toronto after visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Koeh- ler, for the past two weeks, Mrs. Theresa Hartman and son, Gerald, spent Saturday with her sister, Mother Priseille Therese, of the Pines, Chatham. Miss Ann Datars, who is a pa- tient in St. Joseph's I-Iospital, Lon- don, has returned home again, Miss Mary Bedard, Detroit, is spending her holidays with rela- tives in Zurich. Lary Hartman and son, Pat, cal- led on his mother last Friday ev- ening. Mrs, Don Taylor, London, had the misfortune to fall and frac- ture her ankle recently while vi- siting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Datars. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gruehn, Mr, and Mrs. Leon Gruehn, all of Se- bewaing, and Miss Leona Geiger, R.N., of Saginaw, were week end visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Gascho and other rela- tives in this district. RADER, Correspondent) SPORTS DAY On Thursday, June 23, the Grade 8 class from McCurdy Public School, Centralia, defeated Grades 6, 7, and 8, of Dashwood, 93 - 48 in a track and field meet. Dashwood, however turned the tables and won the ball game' 3-1, Individual winners were: 75 - yard dash, Senior boys, Bob Hoff- man (D); Senior girls, Kathy Mc- Neil (C); Intermediate boys, Andy Kenyon (C); Intermediate girls, Marjorie MacPhee; High Jump, Senior boys, Andy Kenyon; Senior girls, Shirley Lightfoot; Interme- diate boys, Andy Kenyon (C); In- terrnediate girls, Marjorie Mac - at Port Franks. 91ST BIRTHDAY Neighbours and friends called on Mrs. Phoebe Weber, in Zurich, on the occasion of her 91st birth- day, presenting her with gifts and cards. At 91, Mrs. Weber is still very active, doing all her house- work, as well as sewing andl look- ing after her big garden. An active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, she attends the services as reguar as she is able. FAMILY REUNION The children, grand -children, and great grand -children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gascho, Zurich, met at the cottage of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gascho on Sunday for a reunion. There 53 present, from Pt. Colmorne, Windsor, Toronto, Brantford, Grand. Bend and Zur- ich. Graduates Michael O'Dwyer, son of Mrs. Ida O'Dwyer, London, and the late Dr. P. J. O'Dwyer, formerly of Zurich, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Western Ontario this semester. He has been accepted in first year medicine at the University of Wes- tern Ontario. PIANO RECITAL The pupils of Mrs. Harold Stire held a music recital Saturday af- ternoon. This consisted of piano solos, duets and musical games af- ter which refreshments were ser- ved and Bingo played. BABY BAPTIZED Sherry Ann Flossie, infant dau- ghter of Mr, and Mrs. Mellvin Stade, was baptized Sunday, June 26, in Zion Lutheran Church, by Rev. K. L. Zorn. Mrs. Flossie Sta- de and Mrs. Rudolph Miller were sponsors. Rev. Louis Higenell, a former pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, passed away at his residence in St. Catherines, on Saturday, June 25. Church, Zur- ich, decorated with baskets of white gladiolas and red strap dra- gons with ferns, was the setting on Saturday, June 25, at 3 o'clock, for the wedding of Erla Cealiea Hay and Eric Smile, Hensall. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hay, Zurich, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William S'maie, of Hensall, The Rev. A. M. Amacher performed the doube-ring ceremony, and the so- loist was Dennis Amacher, while Mrs. Beatrice Hess was organist. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was gowned in a floor length gown with fitted bodice of lace covered with sequins and a full net skirt over taffeta with lace panels accenting the skirt. Her finger-tip veil was accented by a crown of sequins. Marie Jarrott, Stratford, was matron of honour, wearing a waltz - length gown of blue chiffon over taffeta, carrying white carnations and blue mums. She wore a white feather hat and long white gloves. Donald ,Smale, Hensall, was groomsman. Ushers were Gordon Hay and Frank Cousins. A reception was hed at the Do- minion Hotel. The bride's mother wore a floral brown and green terylene dress with yellow roses as corsage. The groom's mother wore a beige check sik dress with pink roses as a corsage. The bride chose a sheath with matching jacket of champagne with blue accessories and a cor- sage of pink roses for her tra- velling costume. On their return home, the young couple will re- side in Zurich, Lutherans To Hold Church Vacation School Next Week The Sunday School of St. Pe- ter's Lutheran Church is spon- soring a 'Vacation Church School, within the dates of July 4 to 15 from 9 to 11 each morning. The continent Africa, and particularly Liberia, will be stressed in connec- tion with the mission fields post- ed there. Crafts, songs and games will be played within a Christian atmos- phere, and it is hoped that as ma- ny as possible will be there.
