ST. JOSEPH and DRYSDALE
CAL. FRED DUCHARME, Correspondent.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Masse,
Goderich, called on relatives on
Sunday last enraute to Zurich to
visit his parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Masse and
family, London, spent the week
end with the Hatter's parents on
this highway.
CLOSE CALL
Of late it has been disagreeable
weather, heavy rains throughout,
and very cool weather for this
time of year. On Thursday last,
shortly after 8 p.m., yours truly
thought it could have been plenty
hot, when a flash of lightning
hit the front of the house.
The Ducharines were sitting in
the front room listening to the TV
with little storm in the air, but
suddenly and not expected a flash
came with deafening thunder
which struck at the front door.
with perhaps 50 balls of fire flick-
ering which burnt out the phone
and the T.V.
Mrs. Ducharme, who was sit-
ting between two doors, received
the hardest shock, and it took
some time before the adjustments
were made and everyone was back
to normal.
POOR SPRING
Already the spring season is
nearly past, and we are about to
enter in the summer months. The
spring season has been disagree-

B'ATHER'S DAY
Some weeks ago mostly all na-
tions celebrated Mother's Day, as
an act of respect and honour paid
to her on that special day. On
Sunday last, being Father's Day,
the sante nations throughout the
land paid the same respect to their
fathers, on Father's Day. Respect
is the symbol of love and all turn-
ed out to set the day aside to
show their homage to their. par-
ents. This love and honour for
parents has reigned from the be-
ginning of time, but it was not
practiced in the open way that it
is now.
Nevertheless the feeling of na-
ture was within them, but not as
today,. a day designed and set aside
for the occasion. We have given
you the reasons why children ap-
proached their mother on Moth-
er's Day, and today in fairness to
ourselves we play the same role to
our fathers,
We are sometimes told that cer-
tain fathers hacl not been faithful
to their children, not giving them
the proper care, and for that he
was ruled out of their company,

As we see it; whether or not he
discharged the duties of a father,
he was chosen by God as an au-
thority, and for that it was well
on Father's Day for children to
approach their fathers with gifts
and good wishes. It is well to re-
member that time waits on no one,
and another year is uncertain.
The Mother's and Father's Day
occasion should be a lesson in this
troubled world to bring about
peace and not wait until the first
button is pressed which could
well be the beginning of the dis-
tinction of humanity.
A FATHER'S DAY PRAYER
Just that each word I utter
May be clear and sincerely said
Just that each plan I foster
May come from a level head
Just that each act I recorded
May bear, as the greater part
The deeds for a human purpose
From a kind and humble heart
Just that each thought be worthy
Of the right to be expressed
And having conceived expression,
Leave no man unimpressed,
And just each day to be able
To weave new notes of joy
To ring in the golden laughter
Of a little brown -eyed boy;
And just that each hour I'm liv-
ing
I can face my, little lad
And hear the sweet old story —
I want to be like Dad.
