The 98th Annual Convention of

On Thursday 'evening, Richard
and Cheryl Stade had the honour
of singing at St. Paul's Cathedral,
London, They sang a total of eight
songs, accompanied by their mo-
ther, Mrs. Harold Stade. The

service at which Dr. A. Lotz, of
Kitchener, preached the sermon,
on Monday evening, June G, The
Convention ended on Thursday,
June 9.
The controversy centred around
the decision of Synod at a special
meeting in May to pursue a course
of independence with the College
at Waterloo, rather than federate
with the new University of Water-
loo. It was reported that 89 Past-
ors and 58 Laymen had registered.
Two new congregations, Holy Tri-
nity, Belleville, and Holy Cross,
Burington, were received. Synod
now consists of 129 pastors, 143
congregations and 21 preaching
points.
The treasurer reported an in-
crease in giving for all purposes
in Synod, and especially for Lu-
theran World Action. Next year
Synod will celebrate its 100th an-
niversary (together with St. Pet-
er's congregation, Zurich) and a
pilgrimage to Zion Lutheran
Church, Maple, where synod was
organized In 1861, is planned.

Synod. He answered questions per-
taining to the "Lutheran Church
in America," to come into being
soon as the result of the merger
of four Lutheran bodies of which
the Canada Synod is one.
The Foreign Missions report
was presented in the form of a
very informative and stimulative
panel discussion with missionaries
from India, Japan and British
Guianne. Two students from the
Lutheran Student Centre at Lon-
don addressed the convention ex-
pressing the appreciation for the
Centre and the pastor at London.
Five Chaplains of the awned forc-
es were introduced to synod.
On Wednesday evening, at a
very itnpressive service, five
young' men were ordained into
the Gspel ministry. Dr. H. T. Leh-
man, former President of Water-
loo Lutheran Seminary and re-
nowned Lutheran Scholar, prea-
ched the sermon.
The Home Mission Committee
reported that six new fields had
been entered during the year;
eight became self-supporting and
five completed their first build-
ings. The evangelism committee
urged a synod wide evangelism
mission in the fall of 1961 on a
parish level. This year the Refor-
mation offering is designated for
the Lutheran Home for the aged.
Synod adopted a budget of $594,-
789.00 for 1961.

PROFESSION OR POSSESSION ?
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be. likened unto ten vir-
gins which took their lamps and, went forth to meet the bride-
groom. And five of them were wise and five of them were
foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps and took no cit
with them; but the wise took oil in their vessels with their
lamps. And at midnight there was a cry made; `Behold the
bridegroom cometh: go yet out to meet him." Then all the vir-
gins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said un-
to the wise, Give use of your oil; for our damps are gone out.
But the wise answered saying, "Not so, lest there not be enough
for us and you: but go rather to them that sell, and buy for
yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came:
and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and
the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying
"Lord, Lord open to us." But he answered and said, "Verily I
say unto you I know you not."
Watch therefore for ye know neither the day, nor the hour
wherein the Son of Man cometh. Matt. 25: 1-13.
