Th Nate used two pitchers, Dou Fountain starting, and his wild- ness resulting in his being yanked in the sixth inning after walking the frst three batters n that frame and George Parker greeted the first pitch with a ringing triple to deep centre field, Fountain had difficulty locating the plate in the first inning and loaded the bases, with none away, but bore down and managed to escape unscathed, but in the sec- ond a single, walk, home run and double netted Zurich three runs. He retired the side in order in the third, fourth and fifth, but ran in. to trouble in the sixth when Zur- ich tallied three times, with none away. John Gardiner replaced him at this stage and went the rest of the way yielding but three hits, while striking out three with his sinker ball. The Nats only outhit the Lum- berkings 8 to 7, but they cashed in heavily on wanks and wild pit- ches, scoring one in the third with- out the semblance of a hit, three more in the fourth under the same circumstances, and up to that time had nicked but two hits. They added three more in the fifth, on one safety, Lynn Gil- bert's single, but bunched three hits, one Joe Griffi's smash over the right centre field fence, plus wo walks, a passed ball and stolen base for three more runs. Two hits, a walk and Zurich's fourth error of the game, netted hem three more markers in the eventh. The Nets were guilty of some oox base -running, two runs be - ng cut down at the plate, and a couple of runners could easily ave been retired but for shabby egging. Tessier started on the mound or Zurich, and gave up only two is in the four innings that he orked, but he walked seven hat- ers .and had five wild pitches. on O'Brien came on in the fourth nd gave up four hits and six ore runs, John Masse finished the game, giving up four hits and wo rune.
