Stephen Delegation
Wants Liquor Vote
Stephen Council, meeting last
Tuesday, was requested by a dele-
gation of men from the township
to call a vote on liquor outlets ,in
the township.
Ten men, from Dashwood, Cre-
diton, Centralia, and other points
in the township, urged that ques-
tions on outlets be placed before
the ratepayers, Clarence McDow-
ell, Centralia, was spokesman for
the group.
Cotmcil promised to answer at
an early date.

The Arts drain went to Frank
Kistner, Dublin, for $600; the 16th
concession drain to Charles Diet-
rich, Mt. Carmel, for $600; the
Swartz drain to William Lawrence,
Zurich, for $1,998.
Supply contracts went to Exe-
ter District Co -Op, for cement at
84 cents per bag; Victor Hogarth,
Exeter, for weed spray at $5.13 a
gallon, and to Chemical Special-
ties, Sarnia, at $10.55 a gallon,
Raise Fire Fee
Council agreed to accept the
Dashwood fire brigrade's request
for an additional charge of $10
while fighting ifres. The fee is
now $60 for the first hour in-
stead of $50.

MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER
Mrs. Gladwin Westlake and Ann
were hostesses at their home on
Friday evening, in honour of Miss
Kathleen Talbot, bride -elect of
July. About 40 friends and neigh
hours gathered and presented her
with a miscellaneous shower.
Contests were enjoyed, under
the direction of Mrs. Eugene
O'Brien, and a humorous reading
was given by Mrs. Gordon West-
lake. This was followed by a mock
wedding in which Louise Talbot
acted the part of the minister;
Mrs. William Talbot Jr., the
groom; Ann Westlake, the bride;
Rose Marie Talbot, the brides-
maid; Mrs. Logan Cleave, best
man; Evelyn. Hyde, mother of the
bride; Mrs. Eugene O'Brien, the
bride's father; Cathryn Grainger,
the flower girl; and Brenda Tal-
bot, ring bearer.
Miss Wendy Greer wheeled in
her buggy, tastefully decorated in
pink and white, and laden with
gifts. Assisting with the gifts

HONOUR BRIDE - ELECT
Mrs. Bodenham, Bayfield, was
hostess at her home on Saturday
evening when the ladies of the
Baptist Church met to honour
Miss Kathleen Talbot, bride -elect
of July, at a miscelaneous shower.
Contests, under the direction
of Miss Ann Westlake, were enjoy-
ed by all.
Mrs, Ross Faber read the ad-
dress and Evelyn Hyde and Ann
Westlake presented the bride -
elect with many lovely gifts.
Kathleen generously thanked
the ladies for their many gifts af-
ter which the lunch was served,
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Talbot,
Tees, Alberta, arrived on Thurs-
day to spend a few weeks with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford
Talbot Sr. Mr. Talbot is pastor
of the Church of God in Tees.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon. Westlake
spent Saturday in Rodney.

85TH BIRTHDAY
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hudie, Clin-
ton, visited their aunt, Miss Rose
Snowden, last Wednesday.. after-
noon, May 31, the occasion being
Miss Snowden's 85th birthday.
Mrs. Hudie brought a birthday
cake and ice cream with them and
they enjoyed it along with a cup
of tea.
Miss .Snowden has spent the win-
ter at the home of Mr. and Mrs,
Douglas Gemeinhardt, but plans
to return to her home very soon.
Also calling later in the evening
was Mrs. Russell Grainger.
Mr. and M,rs. Cifford Talbot Jr.,
and family, London,, spent Ithe
week end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Clifford Talbot Sr. Also home
for the week end were Misses Ka-
thleen .,and Louise Talbot, Kitch-
ener.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Reardon
and family, Goderich, spent the
week end with Mr. and Mrs. Glad-
win Westlake.

Calling on Mrs. w Sarah Carnie
on the occasion of her 83rd birth-
day on May 28, were her niece,
Mrs. George Hess, along with Mrs.

Miss Foster. The ladies brought

them and they enjoyed this along
with a cup of tea served by Mrs,

Mrs. Sarah Carnie last Sunday.

Mr, and Mrs. John Keys and fa-
miy.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Begg and
Ian and Miss Leeta Penhale visited
on Sunday with their cousin, Mrs.
T. M. Snowden,' at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. John Keys and fa-
mily. Also present were Mrs. R.
Grainger, Cathryn and Phyllis,
