HURON COUNTY
CROP REPORT
Recent rains have curtailed seed-
ing operations, but about 75 per
cent of the spring seeding is com-
pleted.
Sugar beets, peas, and turnips
continued to be planted prior to
the rains.
Cattle are moving to pasture.
Grass growth is slow.

Mr. and. Mrs. Carl Houston, Go-
derich, spent a few days with their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs, Vernon Oesch and son, Da-
vid Carl.
Master Ricky Penhale, Bayfield,
spent Saturday with his great
grandmother, Mrs. Lizzie Oesch,
Mr, and Mrs. Earl Oeseh, Judy
and Susan, accompanied by Mr.
and Mrs, Ezra Kipfer,( Hensall,
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs,
Lee Oesch and fancily.
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Mustard
and sons spent the week end at
London, also attended a wedding
on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Westbrook,
Goderich, called on the latter's
father, Mr. Gustav Bohn.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gingerich
and daughter, Norma Jean, and
Elaine, Mr. and Mrs. William
Steckle and son, Robert, spent
Sunday with the latter's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Amos Gingerich.

Legion Auxiliary
Donates To
Various Groups

At the Hensall Legion Ladies
Auxiliary meeting, held last Wed-
nesday evening, $50 was voted to
the Legion and Ladies Auxiliary
Scholarship Fund; $25 to the lo-
cal Guides and Brownies; and $10
to the Tubercular Veterans Sum-
mer Camp,
President, Mrs. Gordon Munn,
and secretary, Mrs. W. J. Camer-
on, were appointed delegates to
the Ladies Auxiliary to Canadian
Legion Convention in Windsor in
September.
Baby gifts were presented to
Mrs. R. Vanstone and Mrs. Harold
Campbell. Mrs. Alice Joynt won
the mystery prize. At the conclu-
sion of the meeting Mrs. M. Stan-
ton showed delightful coloured
slides of countries she viewed ov-
erseas.
Mrs. Munn, who closed the meet-
ing, gave highlights of the trip
to the Alley Bowling Tournament
at Walkerton, in which two teams
from the Auxiliary participated.
Only 139,000 of Canada's 4,303,-

Elected President of
Hensall Kinettes

Mrs. Rose Jinks was elected to
the office of president of the
Hensall Kinette Club at their
meeting at the home of Mrs. Wil-
liam Clement, last Tuesday even-
ing. Other officers are: past pre-
sident, Mrs. William Mickle; vice-
president, Mrs. William Clement;
secretary, Mrs. Harold Bonthron;
treasurer, Mrs. Bob Baker, Jr.;
registrar, Mrs. George Beer,
Final plans for the annual rum-
mage sale were completed. A mo-
tion was passed to adopt a Re-
fugee Child and support it for
one year. Cost of supporting a
child is $50 for the year,
Members will attend the Seaway
convention at Windsor, on May
20, when Mrs. Jack Drysdale, a
past president, will be a candidate
for the convener for District No.
1. A raffle was won by Mrs. Ba-
ker.
Next meeting will take the form
of a social evening when the group
wild go bowling at Exeter. Presi-
dent, Mrs. William Mickle, chair-
ed the meeting.
