Plattsville Takes First Game Of
Finals From Zurich Lions Juveniles
The Zurich Lions Juveniles dost
the first game of the OMHA Juv-
enile "D" finals to the Plattsville
Juveniles last Friday night, by a
score of 6-4. The game, which
was played in Hensel', drew a rec-
ord crowd of over 500.
The locals blew a 3-1 lead at
one stage of the game, and then
again saw a 4-4 tie slip through
their fingers in the third period.
Neither team could score in the
first period, even though Zurich
held a commanding edge on the
play. Poor shooting around the
net held the locals off the score
sheet.
Bill Wagner broke the ice in the
second period, when he scored on

120 Man -Years
Of Working -Time
From March 1 to August 31 last
year, Ontario farmers lost 120
roan -years of working time due
to accidents!
If you had an accident that made
you lose working time could you
keep your farm running?
There would be medical bills to
pay and you might have to hire
someone to do the chores for a
while until you were on your feet
again.
CIA could help you pay the bills
through CIA'S Accident and Sick-
ness Insurance.

Safety In Handling
Bulls Is Given By
Dept. of ' Agriculture
One of the world's, largest Ko-
diak bears in captivity died re-
cently at Riverdale Zoo in Toron-
to. It weight 1600 lbs,
Yet a big dairy bull scales out
at over 2000 lbs. and a playful
one needs just as much careful
handling as the biggest Kodiak,
"Most dairy bulls are even temp.,
ered, but they play rough," says
Hal Wright, farm safety special-
ist with the Ontario Department
of Agriculture. "The farm acci-
dent survey still shows that far-
mers suffer broken arms, crushed
ribs, and even death from care-
less handling of their dairy bull."
He suggests these safety mea-
sures:
* Keep the bull in a strong, well -
constructed pen.
* Use a solidly -built breeding
chute. It should be close to the
pen.
* Have gates and openings to
the bull pen and breeding chute
arranged so that you are never in
the pen with the bull.
* Tie up the bull or put him in
another pen when you clean out
his stall,.
* Put a strong, metal ring in the
bull's nose when he is about a
year old.
* Replace worn-out rings as the
bull gets older. If an 8 to 10 inch
chain is attached to the ring, the
bull is easier to catch.
'k Dehorn any bull calves you
plan to raise.
* Handle bulls with a strong
staff. With unruly bulls, have an
extra man available.
* When you are transporting a
bull, make sure he is tied closely
and can't get room to throw his
weight around. He could upset a
tractor and trailer.
* Adds Wright: "Dairy bulls are
strong and may have a killing in-
stinct when they are aroused."
