There are many people who have never heard of this disease or know of its symptons. The disease, inherited from both parents, is estimated to appear in from one out of every 600 to 1000 live births. As many as 5 to 15% of the general population may be able to transmit it to their off- spring. These figures may seem small to you, but in a town our size with a population of approxi - mately 700, there have been four children, involving two families, born with this disease. For many years doctors have been seeing children with symp- tons of cough, frequent respira- tory infections, bulky foul stouts which are usually frequent and failure to gain weight despite a good appetite. Soine or all of these symptons are present in a child with C. F. This disease has been confused with a variety of other diseases such. as chronic bronchitis, ciliac disease and tu- berculosis. There are highly reliable tests, such as the sweat test, and en- zyme content of the pancrias available at many of our hospitals. Only through education of parents and. doctors, can we give C. F. chil- dren a chance to live. New drugs are being discover- ed, not given as a cure but giv- ing borrowed time, in which re- search might come up with an answer. Through the use of these drugs, my little son is leading a normal life and I have all the faith and hope he will reach man- hood. There is only One who knows; he may be a mere statistic or a living example of what re- search, is doing today and will continue to do in the future. Parents, friends, relatives and interested individuals are now for- ming chapters throughout Canada, with the aims of fund raising and publicity for research and edu- cation. I only hope that through this letter, you will talk of it to your friends, so if C, F. is lurking in your neighbourhood, it may be found out in time, for who knows where the Pied Piper will knock next, Yours truly Mrs, Betty Oke, Zurich, Ontario. The young married couples, the old married couples and the teenagers. There has been a story travelling about that there is nothing to do in this town of Zurich. For awhile this story has been true, but now there is something to do each Friday night, Each Friday night there is a RECORD HOP in the community Centre. Oh, I know we have been having them on Saturday nights, but now it has been requested that we have them on Friday nights. Yes, we have had a good crowd at the last few dances, but you, the dancing people, young, old, and teens could make us have a better crowd. So why don't you come and dance with us, to re- cords. I know what you're thinking now; dancing to records is for the teen tigers. No it's not, dancing to records is for everyone. because dancing to records is no different than having an actual orchestra up on the stage. Instead of an orchestra up there you have a disc jockey playing, records to suit the taste of everyone. At our Record Hop last week we tried a square dance for the first time to see how it would go and TOP PRICES PAID FORE , • CREA EGGS POULTRY Give Us A Call!
