INFORMATION FOR VOTERS RE LIQUOR LICENCE ACT VOTE Each question to be submitted on March 29 covers a par- ticular type of licence, and each question must receive a 60%r majority for that licence to be granted. The three questions are: 1. Beverage rooms for men only. 2. Dining Lounge (the sale of liquor, beer, and wine with hotel meals). 3. A cocktail lounge licence (sale of liquor, beer and wine with- out meals. All the questions are on separate ballots. It is essential that all those in favour of hotel licences mark all three ballots with a plain. X in pen or pencil beside the YES. Advantages to the Village If the vote carries on March 29, many improvements will be made to the hotel property. As is the case elsewhere, these im- provements are dependent on the revenue to be obtained from licensed sale. Should the vote carry, new employment will be created for a number of local people. Further local employment wil result from making necessary changes and improvements in the hotel. A fully licensed hotel in a village such as Zurich is of direct economic benefit to the community. The liquor licence board by agreement with the village council will rebate 20% of the licence fees on the sale of bev- in- creaeach ta line with imp extensionovementsnde hotel f preseing will nt sedin pre- mises. General — It has been proven most conclusively that legal licences in a town or village greatly reduce police problems. Police tchiefs in towns that have his fact. A nearby exampleis d for these licenses will confirmGrand Bend Many Ontario communities have recognized the advantages of bringing the sale of 'beverages under strict legal control. Since 1947, more than 140 Ontario communities have repealed local option by-laws or provided additional local facilities by vote of the electors. During this period, not a single municipality in Ontaric has voted to discontinue either hotel beverage rooms, dining lounges, or lounges. The regulations governing the sale of beverage in stores or licensed premises forbid service to anyone under 21 years of age. The fact that severe penalties are provided under the Liquor I,icence Act makes • such incidents extremely rare. Throughout history, hotels and inns have been considered an essential service in any community, both to the local and travelling public. • Zurich Citizens Legal Control Committee CARDS OF THANKS The family of the late Mrs. Re- gis A.
