World Day Of strayer Held In Local Church The women of the Evangelical, lVtennonite, Amish Mennonite and Lutheran Churches joined in World Day of Prayer at a service held in St. Peter's Lutheran Ch- urch, Zurich, on Friday afternoon, March 4th, The service was conducted by women, members of affiliates of the Women's Inter -Church of Can- ada. The world-wide programme this year was prepared by the Can- adian Inter -Church Council on the theme "Labourers together with God." Each year the service com- es from a different land with last year's programme being prepared by the women of Egypt. Prayers this year were specifical- lydirected to peace, brotherhood and unity of home life. The Womens' Missionary Society of the United Church, convened for their March meeting in the church school room, on Thursday afternoon, with the meeting be- ing opened by Mrs. George Arm- strong. The devotional was tak- en by Mrs. Emma Shepherd, Mrs. Earle Sproat, Mrs. Alice Joynt, Mrs. Orval Rapson, and prayer of- fered by Mrs. W. H. Stephenson. Mrs. N. E. Cook gave a reading on Penal Reform, and Mrs. Henry Whittaker gave the history of the World's Day of Prayer, which start- ed in 1920, and in Canada in 1927. Offering was taken by Mrs. Wil- liam Cole and the group rendereder a chorus "Calling Today." Armstrong presentedthe study on "Africas Old Patterns For New," "The awakening of Africa" and a new life, ,A life membership certificate and pin was presented to Mrs. Laird Mickle, the address and presentat- ion made by Mrs. T. J. Sherritt. The W.M.S. convention will be held in ,Seaforth on March 24, and Mrs. James McAllister wasap- pointed a delegate. On March 21, a cancer meeting will be held in the South Huron Hospital Auxiliary Rooms. The group were informed that the al- location for 1960 is $670, an in- crease of $30.00. No one was injured. The blaze broke out about 8:15 a,m.,and had almost destroyed the home before Bayfield and Bruce - field fire brigades reached the scene. Mrs. Ings was alone in the house at the time. of the fire The fire which was believed to have started around the chimney. No estimate of damage was imm- ediately available.
