PACE: SVC ZURICH CITIS NEWS WEDNESDAY, FEB'R'UARY goo 196 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. READ ABOUT ZURICH The Editor, Zurich Citizens News, Zurich, Ontario. Dear Sir: I read with interest the art- icle on Zurich in our local "Ham- ilton Spectator" last weekend, in- cluding the founding of your news- paper in 1958. For years as a numismatist and philatelist I have formed collec- tions of whole envelopes (small size preferred) of such things as Hotel corner cards and newspaper corner cards, etc. I mean the name in upper left hand corner of envel- opes. Some of the older ones al- so have the picture of the building. I realize that the smaller plac- es sometimes yield. material I am interested in such as odd coins and paper money, so would like to is- sue an ad in your paper. (Note: the ad may be seen on the classi- fied page). My good. friend Walter Holmes, for instance, came up with quite a find of old paper money in Tara a few years ago, which turned up in an old building being torn down, and he was able to negotiate with the family for same. Anything you can do for me will be appreciated. Previous ads in. other various places have given me good contacts as such material is often saved up rather than de- stroyed. Yours very truly, Lindsay M. McLennan, Phm. B., 184 Arkell Avenue, Hamilton, Ontario. CONGRATULATIONS! Mr. Herbert Turkheim Editor, Zurich Citizens News, Zurich, Ontario. John Yareniko, Q.C., 11il:inister D. J. Collins, Deputy Minister LETTER FROM HAMILTON Hamilton Paper Further interest in the story about Zurich which . appeared - in a recent edition of the 'Hamilton Spectator is shown in a letter re- ceived by a local hardware store, Rader and Mittleholtz, who were referred to in the story. A lady in Hamilton, reading the article, immediately thought the store in Zurich might have some old merchandise which she was in search of, and so wrote the follow- ing letter: Rader and. Mittleholtz, Zurich, Ontario. Dear Sir: In the Spectator yesterday, I was reading a writeup of your village and found it very interesting. I .amhoping that you might have in your hardware store 2 -dozen white china or porcelain knobs for kitchen cupboards about 1 1-2"' size. Would you please let me know if you have such and the cost I have tried all the old hardware stores in Hamilton but 'to no avail and the man at Garvin Har- dware suggested I might have luck in asmall town in an old establish- ed hardware, so seeing the picture of your store I thought I would take the chance of writing to you. Enclosed is self-addressed envel- ope for your reply. Hoping this will not inconvenience you. Sincerely, Mrs. R. Miles. 28 Calvin St., Ancaster, Ont. Feb. 7, 1960 Oddly enough, the knobs which the lady is in search of are not available in any of the Zurich stores.
