Well, it sure was hard to get away in the middle of the week I started to tell"him, and my wife hit me a kidney punch O'Brien's Plumbing Heating and Tinsmithing Phone 156 --- Zurich from behind that almost downed me. When we got to the Lieutenant- Governor, I watched the guy ahead of me in line, to. see what he'd do. He bowed slightly as he shook hands with the L. G, So I did. And when my head went down, my eye was naught by something. A big, fat flap of red -striped flan- nelette pyjama pants, draped over my shoe. It had slipped out of my sock, where I stuff them so they won't show. fi There followed 20 minutes of acute anguish, in that huge re- ception room full of beauty and gallantry, before I could find a place to crouch and re -stuff them. And it took me three days to in- duce my wife to recognize my presence on earth. * * * She would agree to go -CO the convention this year only when I promised to wear my pale gray pyjama bottoms, instead of the red -striped flannelette. REGARDING X-RAYS Zurich Citizens News, Zurich, Ontario. Dear Editor: In response to the many edit- orial requests for a statement from the local health department regarding the relative good or harm of chestx-rays, may I sub- mit the following: Chest x-ray examination is an indispensable procedure in the diagnosis and treatment of chest diseasses. Mass surveys have been the means of protecting large numbers of people from becoming infected and developing active clinical tub- erculous disease. All mass survey x-ray machines in Ontario are properly designed to eliminate unnecessary or harm- ful radiation. Except for special reasons,. chest x-rays are not in- dicated at intervals more frequent than two years. The tuberculin test is of benefit as a screening procedure far cer- tain groups by indicating the presence or absence of tuberculous infection. This test is complemen- tary to, but can never replace the chest x-ray. Since TB and other chest dis- ease continue to be a major public health problem, chest x-ray pro- grammes should be continued. I am sorry that r have delayed sending it in, but one day slips away after the other, and all of a sudden it is February! We all en- joy the paper very much, and al- though as I have mentioned be- fore, some of the people are new to us, a great number, in fact the greater number are people that we have known for many years. We must congratulate you on winning the newspaper award, for weekly newspapers. It must all be very gratifying to you and your staff. However, I know that noth- ing is a success of itself, so you must have worked hard to pro- mote the sales and to hunt up the necessary material to make the paper the interesting publication that it Michael is plugging away in his third year B.A., and hopes to get into medical school this fall. It is hard work, but nothing is worthwhile without it anyway, is it? Patricia sees some of the sick citizens in her capacity as in- sirctress at St. Joseph's Hospital, and she and they are always glad to meet. Our best wishes for the contin- ued success of your newspaper, and with kindest regards to your- self and please give your mother my love. Sincerely, IDA L. O'DWYER (Mrs. P. J.) 1160 Richmond Street, Lpndon, Ontario. February 6th, 1960. P.S.
