TWO DROWNED NEAR AUB-
URN.
Two lives were lost, one in a
futile attempt at rescue, in a
small creek running through the
Govier farm, two miles from Aub-
urn, on Saturday afternoon. The
dead are Mrs. H. Govier and Elsie
Lockhart, 11 -year -ole daughter of
Thomas Lockart of Auburn. In
company with f our others, Elsie
Lockhart, who was visiting at the
Govier home, went to the creek to
ba`he. It is bel'eve9 that she slip-
ped into a deep hole 31nd went
down without a sound. When
the other children left the water
they noticed the )absence of E1s'.e,
and ran frantically to the farm-
house for Mrs. Govier, Mrs. Gov-
ier ran to the icr: e'.;, and, fully dreg
sed; dashed into the wafer'ni an ef
fort to find the missing child. She
too, fell into one of the many
treacherous holes in the stream,
was drowned. It was an hour be-
fore any men were found, and half
