Interesting Letter
from England.
;June loth, 1911
Bearwood Canadian Convales-
cent Hospital, Hut 6, .Woking
ham Berkshire Co., Eng...,
Dear Aunt; -
,Your letter received,
and also cousin Hazel's. I was
quite pleased to hear from you all
and to know that ,you were all
well.
This finds me elnjoying the best
of health. My leg has heaIediuj,
and is gradually getting stronger,
but will take some little time to
get its natural strength back ,a-
gain. After having a tight ban-
,dage around a wound for :a long
time, it naturally makes that 'part
of the body somewhat smaller,
and after the bandage had ,been
taken off it takes it some time to
develop again. ;
I .came here :from Torquay a short
time ago, but do not expeet to
be here long. This is a Most
beautiful spot here. In fact, En-
gland is a111 most beautiful, , dao
matter where you go. It is
rather ,nice to get back .among
your own countrymen again, as one
does not run across many of them;
in English hospitals, as there is
such a ssn,a1l'\per cent. of Canad-
ian soldiers in comparison with,
English soldiers. Wounded C33fr
adian soldiers are. not always seint
to their own hospitals. There is
generally a lot more English sol-
diers in Gamed -lien hospitals than
moAvn soldiers. Where
wounded convoy goes, .you
Nevertheless, that is the way_. it
should •be, hs it gives the different
nationalities la better chance . to

acquainted, and get to understand

Prospects are good for a splen-
did crop here this year, There
has 'been paefnty of rainfall in most
parts ,alnid plelnty of warm sunshine
of late. Everything seems well
advanced, but the people here
surely meed a good crop as we
have not rtneh between us and s<:ar,
vation, but as they seem to beeolv
ing the submarine question a little
more every day, it helps to make.
things look brighter. So far, I
think, the majority of people here
fare not too baldly, but all have
kno'vn more frightful days. The
real poor people here of whom,
there ,are so many have a hard
struggle to exist. Much more so
than I thunk any of you in Canada
can quite realize.
It .w+il'1 be a great blessing when
this war is all over, but I do not.
think we could have a igreater•bl•
essing sent us for our future then
this present war. It may seem
terrible to say that, yet ,owing to.
the circumstances we were surroun
ded by "War seemed the ,only
thing to overcome them all' as
each nation seemed to be striving
for her own commercial interests
and the expansion of her territory
and each ibdividual seemed to be
striving snore or toss for himself
and war seemed the only thing, to
right it all, !but out off it all, God
will create a new world. IC, niay
not be so noticable at the''ello•se
of the war. It will t ake some
little time a!fter!to reach its height
as Christian character is not built
nxly fids a ;sNngle day.
(This velar has (done more to,bring
about a red'scovery of rray.r than
any other way, especially+ among
those at the front, who have beetn
brought face to face with death.
and who naturally sought help
from .God, and when he did help
mong the people and mations to -
word that higher calling. (There
is Ia restlessness all over in xnlany.
ways. , 'ffi
Well I will close .for this time.
with kindest Regards to you all,
hoping this finds you gall well and
to h*!ar .frown you at any time and
remain Your Affectionate Nephew,
