Letter from France
The, following letter was received,
by Mrs. J. K. Goetz, Dashwood,
from, her son, Pte. Gorden Goetz,
who has been overseas for over
a year and has seen active duty
in the trenches for sgm.e time.

been so busy that I could not
get time to ;write very much. I

asehand working hard. (The
weather ,is good and af: course c
that is a little encouraging. Thin-
gs are rather quiet just DOW.and
we are waiting for re-inorcements
before they start something a-
gain. I suppose you have read
all about the galllant'Canadians
and +Vimy Ridge. Believe me I
would rather be reading about it
in •Canada (than taking part in it.
I •saw so many fellows killed and
wounded during the advance that
I am. sick and tired of it all and
so is everybody else.
We all thought that this would
be the begin(nin(g of the end, but
it is plainly seen now that the
war will never end through fight-
*ing on the battlefield. I was over
5 at the 18th Battalion wagon lin-
es to -day • and saw same fellows
who I knew. The 29th Battery
was islplii up to ‘make 4 gun bat-
teries, in ,fact everything is chan-
ged. So ,nsany of the old fellows
have been killed or wounded and
their places arae filled with new
fellows. 1 get the London paper
regularity, had four to-night.Saw
where Jake Kellerman knocked a
lady down in London, also that
Harry (Windsor from Exeter was
killed, Roy Scot, a friend 'of
mine from London, who is in this
battery and I. went over to the
20th Battalion to see an officer
Roy used to work With, but after
we got their we were told he was,
killed the night before (coming
back from the trenches. 'This is
what happens every day. Well
mother I wish it was all over but
I ,gess we will be here for a while
I idon't -k(now of any news to tell
you. Iit's the same' thing here.

RED CROSS WORK
At the June session of the Co-
unty Council an additional grant
was anade of $8,000 for Red Cross
work for Huron. The township
Of (Hay's share of this amount is

HOME ON FURLOUGH
Last Friday evening Lieut Em-
anuel Holzman was welcomed
house. He Was met at the stati-
on, by la number of autos and ,es-
corted to Zurich. Lieut. Holtz-
man has seen some months of
active service in the trenches and
at the battle of 'Vimy Ridge in,
France, in which the glall ant Can-

heroically; he• 'Was seriously hurt
by the horse he was riding being
shot under him and falling on his
leg. Be was sent to the hospital
and when sufficiently recovered
came home on furlough. Be is
anxious to get hack to the firing
live and as soon as his leg permits(
it, he will leave again for active
duty

A very pretty wedding was sol-
emnized at the home of Mr. and
11rs, Henry ,1'ruemner, when tneir
eldest daughter, Athce Pearl was
united in marria.ge to John P.
Moritz, of Cavalier, N. D. by the
Rev. V. B. Meyer. lithe bride,
entered the drawing room leaning
on the lain of her father while the
strains of the wedd;ng march were
being played by Miss Cora Rosins
aeruemner, cousin of the bride. The
bride was becomingly attired in a
white gown of silk +crep:e de chene
trimmed with georgetta crepe and
beads, wearing a •tulie veil of or-
ange blossoms, earring a boquet
of bridal roses. Miss Florence
May ;Wing of Kitchener acted as
bridesmaid dressed in Maize taf-
ietta trimmed with silk crepe de
chene and gilt braid carrying a
to quet of K.larney roes. Ar.hur,
ti. i1rluemner only biocher of the
bride acted as groomsman. Pretty.
little Florence Moritz of Guelph,
niece of the .groom, acted as rung -

The gift from the groom to the
bridesmaid was a gold pin set with
pearls, to the groomsman, a set of
gold Masonic cuff ',kinks, to the
flower girl a lavaleur set with em-
erald and pearl and to the pianist,
a gold pin set with Ruby.
After ,congratulations the bride
led the way to the dining room•
which was prettily decotraed in
pink and white, where all partook
of (a sumptuous wedding dinner
The many costly and beautiful gif-
ts were received includiing a check
of $300.00 from the bride's parents.
In the afternoon Mr, and Mrs.
Moritz left for a short trip to
London, Toronto, Niagara Falls,
and Buffalo and other points. The
bride travelling its a navy blue,
serge suit and picturesque hat.
(The wedding was attended mos-
tly by near relatives those out of
town coming from Stratford, Kit-
chener and .Guelph..
After returning Mr. and Mrs.
Morita. will leave shortly for their,
future shorn in .Cavalier, North
